Al-'Asr Verse 1

By the ˹passage of˺ time!

By the time,

By the afternoon!

By the declining day,

By the time,

By (the Token of) Time (through the ages),

By the time!

TIME AND AGE are witness

By oath of this era of yours (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him).

By Time!

By Time (especially the last part of it, heavy with events),

I cite as witness the Time.

And/by the time/era/end of day to dusk

By oath of this era of yours (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him).

By the declining day

By Al-'Asr (the time).

Surely man is in loss,

I swear by the time,

By the declining day,

By the time (of the advent of Islam),

By the time of the afternoon!

By Al-`Asr.

I swear by the passage of time,

By time.

By Time! -- or [it `asr can mean the period] from the declining of the sun to sunset, or [it may denote] the afternoon prayer.

Allah Says;

وَالْعَصْرِ




إِنَّ الاِْنسَانَ لَفِي خُسْرٍ

By the era distinctive of life on earth
