Al-Anbya Verse 31

And We have placed firm mountains upon the earth so it does not shake with them, and made in it broad pathways so they may find their way.

We have set on the earth firm mountains so it does not shake with them, and We have made therein broad pathways so that they may find their way.

And We set in the earth firm mountains lest it should shake with them, and We set in it ravines to serve as ways, that haply so they may be guided;

And We put firm mountains on the earth, lest it should sway under them, and set broad paths on it, so that they might follow the right direction,

And We have placed in the earth firm mountains lest it should move away with them, and We placed therein Passages for paths, that haply they may be guided.

And We have set on the earth mountains standing firm, lest it should shake with them, and We have made therein broad highways (between mountains) for them to pass through; that they may receive Guidance.

And We placed firm mountains on earth lest it should sway with them, and We made wide paths in them that they may find their way;

We placed stabilisers in the earth so that as it revolved with them you lived undisturbed; and We provided passageways between them so that men may find their way;

And We have placed mountains as anchors in the earth so that it may not shake with them; and We kept wide roads in it, so that they may find guidance.

We set firm mountains in the earth lest it should shake with them, and We made broad ways in them so that they may be guided [to their destinations].

We have set up firm mountains on the earth lest it should shake them with its movement, and We have made thereon broad paths, so that they might find their way.

And We have made firm mountains on the earth so that they may be a source of benefit and provision for the people and lest it should quake with them. And We made on it wide pathways that people may find right guidance to reach the goal.

And We made/created in the earth/Planet Earth anchors/mountains , that (E) it sways and leans/moves and unsettles with them, and We made/created in it wide mountain paths (as) roads/paths ,maybe/perhaps they be guided.

And We have placed mountains as anchors in the earth so that it may not shake with them; and We kept wide roads in it, so that they may find guidance.

Do not those who disbelieve see that the heavens and the earth were of one piece, and We parted them; and We made every living thing from water. Will they then not believe?

And We have placed on the earth firm mountains, lest it should shake with them, and We placed therein broad highways for them to pass through, that they may be guided.

Do not those who disbelieve see that the heavens and the earth were closed up, so We rent them. And We made from water everything living. Will they not then believe?

And We have made great mountains in the earth lest it might be convulsed with them, and We have made in it wide ways that they may follow a right direction.

And We have placed in the earth firm hills lest it quake with them, and We have placed therein ravines as roads that haply they may find their way.

We placed firm mountains on earth lest it would shake them away. We made wide roads for them so that they might have the right guidance.

We set firm mountains upon the earth lest it should shake with them, and We placed therein ravines to be paths so that they might be guided.

And We have placed on the earth firm mountains, lest it should shake with them, and We placed therein broad highways for them to pass through, that they may be guided.

We set firm mountains upon the earth lest it should sway under them, and We placed therein passages for paths so that they might find their way.

And We placed on earth stabilizers, lest it sways with them, and We placed therein signposts and passages, that they may be guided.

And We set in the earth firm mountains lest it should shake with them, and We set in them, [in] the firm mountains, ravines, as roads (subulan substitutes [for fijjan, `ravines', which are wide through-routes]), that perhaps they may be guided, to their destinations during travel.

وَجَعَلْنَا فِي الاَْرْضِ رَوَاسِيَ

And We have placed on the earth firm mountains,

means, mountains which stabilize the earth and keep it steady and lend it weight, lest it should shake with the people, i.e., move and tremble so that they would not be able to stand firm on it -- because it is covered with water, apart from one-quarter of its surface. So the land is exposed to the air and sun, so that its people may see the sky with its dazzling signs and evidence.

So Allah says,

أَن تَمِيدَ بِهِمْ

lest it should shake with them,

meaning, so that it will not shake with them.

وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا فِجَاجًا سُبُلً

and We placed therein broad highways for them to pass through,

means, mountain passes through which they may travel from region to region, country to country. As we can see, the mountains form barriers between one land and another, so Allah created gaps -- passes -- in the mountains so that people may travel from here to there.

So He says;

لَعَلَّهُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ



that they may be guided
