Yusuf Verse 4

˹Remember˺ when Joseph said to his father, “O my dear father! Indeed I dreamt of eleven stars, and the sun, and the moon—I saw them prostrating to me!”[[ This dream came true at the end of the story (see {12:100}).]]

[Remember] when Joseph said to his father, “O my father, I saw [in a dream] eleven stars, the sun and the moon – I saw them prostrating to me.”

When Joseph said to his father, 'Father, I saw eleven stars, and the sun and the moon; I saw them bowing down before me.'

Joseph said to his father, ‘Father, I dreamed of eleven stars and the sun and the moon: I saw them all bow down before me,’

Recall what time Yusufj said unto his father:, y father! verily have seen eleven stars and the sun and the moon; I have seen them prostrating themselves unto me.

Behold! Joseph said to his father; "O my father! I did see eleven stars and the sun and the moon; I saw them prostrate themselves to me!"

Call to mind when Joseph said to his father: "My father! I saw (in a dream) eleven stars and the sun and the moon: I saw them prostrating themselves before me."

When Joseph told his father: "O my father, I saw eleven stars and the sun and the moon bowing before me in homage,"

Remember when Yusuf (Joseph) said to his father, “O my father! I saw eleven stars and the sun and the moon – I saw them prostrating to me.”

When Joseph said to his father, ‘Father! I saw eleven planets, and the sun and the moon: I saw them prostrating themselves before me,’

When Joseph said to his father: "O my father! I saw in a dream eleven stars, as well as the sun and the moon: I saw them prostrating themselves before me."

(Remember the time) when Joseph said to his father, `My dear father! I have seen (in a vision) eleven stars and the sun and the moon. I saw them falling down prostrate (before God) because of me.´

When Joseph said to his father: You my father that I, I saw eleven planet(s)/star(s) and the sun and the moon, I saw/them to me prostrating."

Remember when Yusuf (Joseph) said to his father, "O my father! I saw eleven stars and the sun and the moon - I saw them prostrating to me."

We tell you the best (the most beautiful, appealing, enlightening) of narratives in that We inspired in you this Quran, though you were before it among the heedless.

(Remember) when Yusuf (Joseph) said to his father: "O my father! Verily, I saw (in a dream) eleven stars and the sun and the moon, I saw them prostrating themselves to me."

We narrate to thee the best of narratives, in that We have revealed to thee this Qur’an, though before this thou wast of those unaware.

When Yusuf said to his father: O my father! surely I saw eleven stars and the sun and the moon-- I saw them making obeisance to me.

When Joseph said unto his father: O my father! Lo! I saw in a dream eleven planets and the sun and the moon, I saw them prostrating themselves unto me.

When Joseph said, "Father, in my dream I saw eleven stars, the sun and the moon prostrating before me,"

When Joseph said to his father: 'Father, I saw eleven planets, and the sun and the moon; I saw them prostrating themselves before me'

(Remember) when Yusuf said to his father: "O my father! Verily, I saw (in a dream) eleven stars and the sun and the moon - I saw them prostrating themselves to me."

When Joseph told his father, "My father, I saw eleven stars, and the sun and moon: I saw them prostrate themselves before me,"

When Joseph said to his father, “O my father, I saw eleven planets, and the sun, and the moon; I saw them bowing down to me.”

Mention, when Joseph said to his father, Jacob; `O my father (read y abati to indicate the omitted y' of genitive annexation [sc. of y ab]; or read y abata to indicate that an alif, originally a y', has been omitted) I saw, in my sleep, eleven planets and the sun and the moon, I saw them ([repeated] for emphasis) prostrating themselves before me' (sjidn; this plural form is used to describe [the act of] `prostration', which is an attribute associated with rational beings).

Yusuf's Dream

Allah says,

إِذْ قَالَ يُوسُفُ لاَِبِيهِ يَا أَبتِ إِنِّي

رَأَيْتُ أَحَدَ عَشَرَ كَوْكَبًا وَالشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ رَأَيْتُهُمْ لِي سَاجِدِينَ



(Remember) when Yusuf said to his father;"O my father! Verily, I saw (in a dream) eleven stars and the sun and the moon - I saw them prostrating themselves to me."

Allah says, `Mention to your people, O Muhammad, among the stories that you narrate to them, the story of Yusuf.'

Prophet Yusuf (Joseph) mentioned his dream to his father, Prophet Yaqub (Jacob), son of Prophet Ishaq (Isaac), son of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), peace be upon them all.

Abdullah bin Abbas stated that the dreams of Prophets are revelations from Allah.

Scholars of Tafsir explained that;

in Yusuf's dream the eleven stars represent his brothers, who were eleven, and the sun and the moon represent his father and mother.

This explanation was collected from Ibn Abbas, Ad-Dahhak, Qatadah, Sufyan Ath-Thawri and Abdur-Rahman bin Zayd bin Aslam.

Yusuf's vision became a reality forty years later, or as some say, eighty years, when Yusuf raised his parents to the throne while his brothers were before him,

وَخَرُّواْ لَهُ سُجَّدًا وَقَالَ يَا أَبَتِ هَـذَا تَأْوِيلُ رُوْيَايَ مِن قَبْلُ قَدْ جَعَلَهَا رَبِّي حَقًّا

and they fell down before him prostrate. And he said;"O my father! This is the interpretation of my dream aforetime! My Lord has made it come true!" (12;100
