ذٰلِكُمْ بِاَنَّهٗٓ اِذَا دُعِيَ اللّٰهُ وَحْدَهٗ كَفَرْتُمْۚ وَاِنْ يُّشْرَكْ بِهٖ تُؤْمِنُوْا ۗفَالْحُكْمُ لِلّٰهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْكَبِيْرِ ( غافر: ١٢ )
Zaalikum bi annahooo izaa du'iyal laahu wahdahoo kafartum wa iny yushrak bihee tu'minoo; falhukmu lillaahil 'Aliyyil Kabeer (Ghāfir 40:12)
English Sahih:
[They will be told], "That is because, when Allah was called upon alone, you disbelieved; but if others were associated with Him, you believed. So the judgement is with Allah, the Most High, the Grand." (Ghafir [40] : 12)
Muhammad Hamidullah:
«... Il en est ainsi car lorsqu'Allah était invoqué seul (sans associé), vous ne croyiez pas; et si on Lui donnait des associés, alors vous croyiez. Le jugement appartient à Allah, le Très Haut, le Très Grand». (Ghafir [40] : 12)

Ce châtiment vous est infligé car lorsque l’on invoquait Allah Seul et qu’on ne Lui associait personne, vous mécroyiez en Lui et Lui attribuiez des associés. A l’inverse, lorsque l’on adorait un associé avec Allah, vous croyiez. Le jugement appartient donc à Allah Seul, le Très-Haut par Son Etre, par Son pouvoir de décréter et par Sa domination, le Très Grand devant lequel tout est petit.
