وَاِذَا قِيْلَ لَهُمُ اتَّبِعُوْا مَآ اَنْزَلَ اللّٰهُ قَالُوْا بَلْ نَتَّبِعُ مَآ اَلْفَيْنَا عَلَيْهِ اٰبَاۤءَنَا ۗ اَوَلَوْ كَانَ اٰبَاۤؤُهُمْ لَا يَعْقِلُوْنَ شَيْـًٔا وَّلَا يَهْتَدُوْنَ ( البقرة: ١٧٠ )
Wa izaa qeela lahumuttabi'oo maaa anzalal laahu qaaloo bal nattabi'u maaa alfainaa 'alaihi aabaaa'anaaa; awalaw kaana aabaaa'hum laa ya'qiloona shai'anw wa laa yahtadoon (al-Baq̈arah 2:170)
English Sahih:
And when it is said to them, "Follow what Allah has revealed," they say, "Rather, we will follow that which we found our fathers doing." Even though their fathers understood nothing, nor were they guided? (Al-Baqarah [2] : 170)

അല്ലാഹു ഇറക്കിത്തന്ന സന്ദേശം പിന്പറ്റാന് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടാല് അവര് പറയും: ''ഞങ്ങളുടെ പൂര്വ പിതാക്കള് പിന്തുടര്ന്നതായി ഞങ്ങള് കണ്ടതിനെ മാത്രമേ ഞങ്ങള് പിന്പറ്റുകയുള്ളൂ.'' അവരുടെ പിതാക്കള് ഒന്നും ചിന്തിക്കാത്തവരും നേര്വഴി പ്രാപിക്കാത്തവരുമായിരുന്നിട്ടും! (അല്ബഖറ [2] : 170)

അല്ലാഹു അവതരിപ്പിച്ചത് നിങ്ങള് പിന്പറ്റി ജീവിക്കുക എന്ന് അവരോട് ആരെങ്കിലും പറഞ്ഞാല്, 'അല്ല, ഞങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കള് സ്വീകരിച്ചതായി കണ്ടതേ ഞങ്ങള് പിന്പറ്റുകയുള്ളൂ' എന്നായിരിക്കും അവര് പറയുന്നത്. അവരുടെ പിതാക്കള് യാതൊന്നും ചിന്തിച്ച് മനസ്സിലാക്കാത്തവരും നേര്വഴി കണ്ടെത്താത്തവരുമായിരുന്നെങ്കില് പോലും (അവരെ പിന്പറ്റുകയാണോ?)
