لِلْفُقَرَاۤءِ الَّذِيْنَ اُحْصِرُوْا فِيْ سَبِيْلِ اللّٰهِ لَا يَسْتَطِيْعُوْنَ ضَرْبًا فِى الْاَرْضِۖ يَحْسَبُهُمُ الْجَاهِلُ اَغْنِيَاۤءَ مِنَ التَّعَفُّفِۚ تَعْرِفُهُمْ بِسِيْمٰهُمْۚ لَا يَسْـَٔلُوْنَ النَّاسَ اِلْحَافًا ۗوَمَا تُنْفِقُوْا مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ بِهٖ عَلِيْمٌ ࣖ ( البقرة: ٢٧٣ )
Lilfuqaraaa'il lazeena uhsiroo fee sabeelil laahi laa yastatee'oona darban fil ardi yah sabuhumul jaahilu aghniyaaa'a minat ta'affufi ta'rifuhum biseemaahum laa yas'aloonan naasa ilhaafaa; wa maa tunfiqoo min khairin fa innal laaha bihee 'Aleem (al-Baq̈arah 2:273)
English Sahih:
[Charity is] for the poor who have been restricted for the cause of Allah, unable to move about in the land. An ignorant [person] would think them self-sufficient because of their restraint, but you will know them by their [characteristic] sign. They do not ask people persistently [or at all]. And whatever you spend of good – indeed, Allah is Knowing of it. (Al-Baqarah [2] : 273)

ഭൂമിയില്‍ സഞ്ചരിച്ച് അന്നമന്വേഷിക്കാന്‍ അവസരമില്ലാത്തവിധം അല്ലാഹുവിന്റെ മാര്‍ഗത്തിലെ തീവ്രയത്‌നങ്ങളില്‍ ബന്ധിതരായ ദരിദ്രര്‍ക്കുവേണ്ടി ചെലവഴിക്കുക. അവരുടെ മാന്യത കാരണം അവര്‍ ധനികരാണെന്ന് അറിവില്ലാത്തവര്‍ കരുതിയേക്കാം. എന്നാല്‍ ലക്ഷണംകൊണ്ട് നിനക്കവരെ തിരിച്ചറിയാം. അവര്‍ ആളുകളെ ചോദിച്ച് ശല്യംചെയ്യുകയില്ല. നിങ്ങള്‍ നല്ലത് എത്ര ചെലവഴിച്ചാലും തീര്‍ച്ചയായും അല്ലാഹു അതറിയുന്നവനാണ്. (അല്‍ബഖറ [2] : 273)

ഭൂമിയില്‍ സഞ്ചരിച്ച് ഉപജീവനം തേടാന്‍ സൗകര്യപ്പെടാത്ത വിധം അല്ലാഹുവിന്റെ മാര്‍ഗത്തില്‍ വ്യാപൃതരായിട്ടുള്ള ദരിദ്രന്‍മാര്‍ക്ക് വേണ്ടി (നിങ്ങള്‍ ചെലവ് ചെയ്യുക.) (അവരെപ്പറ്റി) അറിവില്ലാത്തവന്‍ (അവരുടെ) മാന്യത കണ്ട് അവര്‍ ധനികരാണെന്ന് ധരിച്ചേക്കും. എന്നാല്‍ അവരുടെ ലക്ഷണം കൊണ്ട് നിനക്കവരെ തിരിച്ചറിയാം. അവര്‍ ജനങ്ങളോട് ചോദിച്ച് വിഷമിപ്പിക്കുകയില്ല. നല്ലതായ എന്തൊന്ന് നിങ്ങള്‍ ചെലവഴിക്കുകയാണെങ്കിലും അല്ലാഹു അത് നല്ലത് പോലെ അറിയുന്നവനാണ്.
