قَالُوْٓا اَجِئْتَنَا لِتَلْفِتَنَا عَمَّا وَجَدْنَا عَلَيْهِ اٰبَاۤءَنَا وَتَكُوْنَ لَكُمَا الْكِبْرِيَاۤءُ فِى الْاَرْضِۗ وَمَا نَحْنُ لَكُمَا بِمُؤْمِنِيْنَ ( يونس: ٧٨ )

قَالُوٓا۟
They said
aji'tanā
أَجِئْتَنَا
"Have you come to us
litalfitanā
لِتَلْفِتَنَا
to turn us away
ʿammā
عَمَّا
from that
wajadnā
وَجَدْنَا
we found
ʿalayhi
عَلَيْهِ
on it
ābāanā
ءَابَآءَنَا
our forefathers
watakūna
وَتَكُونَ
and you two (may) have
lakumā
لَكُمَا
and you two (may) have
l-kib'riyāu
ٱلْكِبْرِيَآءُ
the greatness
fī
فِى
in
l-arḍi
ٱلْأَرْضِ
the land?
wamā
وَمَا
And we (are) not
naḥnu
نَحْنُ
And we (are) not
lakumā
لَكُمَا
(in) you two
bimu'minīna
بِمُؤْمِنِينَ
believers"
Qaaloo aji'tanaa litalfitanaa 'ammaa wajadnaa 'alaihi aabaaa'anaa wa takoona lakumal kibriyaaa'u fil ardi wa maa nahnu lakumaa bimu' mineen (al-Yūnus 10:78)
Sahih International:
They said, "Have you come to us to turn us away from that upon which we found our fathers and so that you two may have grandeur in the land? And we are not believers in you." (Yunus [10] : 78)
1 Mufti Taqi Usmani
They said, “Have you come to us to turn us away from the way on which we have found our fathers, and so that you both have supremacy on earth? We are not going to believe in you.”
