wa-in
وَإِن
And if
jādalūka
جَٰدَلُوكَ
they argue (with) you
faquli
فَقُلِ
then say,
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
"Allah
aʿlamu
أَعْلَمُ
(is) most knowing
bimā
بِمَا
of what
taʿmalūna
تَعْمَلُونَ
you do.

Wa in jaadalooka faqulil laahu a'lamu bimaa ta'maloon

Sahih International:

And if they dispute with you, then say, "Allah is most knowing of what you do.

And if they quarrel with you, say, “Allah well knows your evil deeds.”

But if they dispute with you, say, ‘Allah knows best what you are doing.

If they argue with you, say only: "God knows well what you are doing. (To me are accounted my deeds, and to you, your deeds. You are quit of all that I do, and I am quit of all that you do.)"

And if they still contend with you, say, `Allâh knows best all that you do.

And if they argued/disputed with you, so say: "God (is) more knowledgeable with what you make/do ."

Unto every nation have We given sacred rites which they are to perform; so let them not then dispute about the matter, but summon you unto your Lord; verily, you (Muhammad) indeed follow right guidance.

And if they argue with you (as regards the slaughtering of the sacrifices), say; "Allah knows best of what you do.

To every nation We appointed acts of devotion, which they observe, so let them not dispute with thee in the matter, and call to thy Lord. Surely thou art on a right guidance.

But if they dispute with you, say, “God is fully aware of what you do.”

23 Tafsir jalalayn

And if they dispute with you, in the matter of religion, say, `God knows best what you do, and will requite you for it -- this was [revealed] before the command to fight [them].

24 Tafseer Ibn Kathir

And if they argue with you, say;"Allah knows best what you do."

This is like the Ayah;

وَإِن كَذَّبُوكَ فَقُل لِّى عَمَلِى وَلَكُمْ عَمَلُكُمْ أَنتُمْ بَرِييُونَ مِمَّأ أَعْمَلُ وَأَنَاْ بَرِىءٌ مِّمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ

And if they belie you, say;"For me are my deeds and for you are your deeds! You are innocent of what I do, and I am innocent of what you do!" (10;41)

اللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ


Allah knows best of what you do.

This is a stern warning and definite threat, as in the Ayah;

هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا تُفِيضُونَ فِيهِ كَفَى بِهِ شَهِيداً بَيْنِى وَبَيْنَكُمْ

He knows best of what you say among yourselves concerning it! Sufficient is He as a witness between me and you! (46;8)

Allah says here;

اللَّهُ يَحْكُمُ بَيْنَكُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فِيمَا كُنتُمْ فِيهِ تَخْتَلِفُونَ
