وَحَسِبُوْٓا اَلَّا تَكُوْنَ فِتْنَةٌ فَعَمُوْا وَصَمُّوْا ثُمَّ تَابَ اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِمْ ثُمَّ عَمُوْا وَصَمُّوْا كَثِيْرٌ مِّنْهُمْۗ وَاللّٰهُ بَصِيْرٌۢ بِمَا يَعْمَلُوْنَ  ( المائدة: ٧١ )

waḥasibū
وَحَسِبُوٓا۟
And they thought
allā
أَلَّا

تَكُونَ
will be (for them)
fit'natun
فِتْنَةٌ
a trial
faʿamū
فَعَمُوا۟
so they became blind
waṣammū
وَصَمُّوا۟
and they became deaf
thumma
ثُمَّ
Then
tāba
تَابَ
turned
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah
ʿalayhim
عَلَيْهِمْ
to them
thumma
ثُمَّ
then (again)
ʿamū
عَمُوا۟
they became blind
waṣammū
وَصَمُّوا۟
and they became deaf
kathīrun
كَثِيرٌ
many
min'hum
مِّنْهُمْۚ
of them
wal-lahu
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
baṣīrun
بَصِيرٌۢ
(is) All-Seer
bimā
بِمَا
of what
yaʿmalūna
يَعْمَلُونَ
they do

Wa hasibooo allaa takoona fitnaun fa'amoo wa sammoo summa taabal laahu 'alaihim summa 'amoo wa sammoo kaseerum minhum; wallaahu baseerum bimaa ya'maloon (al-Māʾidah 5:71)

Sahih International:

And they thought there would be no [resulting] punishment, so they became blind and deaf. Then Allah turned to them in forgiveness; then [again] many of them became blind and deaf. And Allah is Seeing of what they do. (Al-Ma'idah [5] : 71)

1 Mufti Taqi Usmani

They thought that no harm would follow. Therefore, they became blind and deaf. Then, Allah accepted their repentance, but again they turned blind and deaf, many of them. Allah is watchful of what they do.
