قَالَ لَنْ اُرْسِلَهٗ مَعَكُمْ حَتّٰى تُؤْتُوْنِ مَوْثِقًا مِّنَ اللّٰهِ لَتَأْتُنَّنِيْ بِهٖٓ اِلَّآ اَنْ يُّحَاطَ بِكُمْۚ فَلَمَّآ اٰتَوْهُ مَوْثِقَهُمْ قَالَ اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مَا نَقُوْلُ وَكِيْلٌ ( يوسف: ٦٦ )
Qaala lan ursilahoo ma'akum hattaa tu'tooni mawsiqam minal laahis lataa tunnanee biheee illaaa nay yuhaata bikum falammaaa aatawhu mawsiqahum qaalal laahu 'alaa maa naqoolu Wakeel (Yūsuf 12:66)
English Sahih:
[Jacob] said, "Never will I send him with you until you give me a promise [i.e., oath] by Allah that you will bring him [back] to me, unless you should be surrounded [i.e., overcome by enemies]." And when they had given their promise, he said, "Allah, over what we say, is Entrusted." (Yusuf [12] : 66)
Muhammad Hamidullah:
- Il dit: «Jamais je ne l'enverrai avec vous, jusqu'à ce que vous m'apportiez l'engagement formel au nom d'Allah que vous me le ramènerez à moins que vous ne soyez cernés». Lorsqu'ils lui eurent apporté l'engagement, il dit: «Allah est garant de ce que nous disons». (Yusuf [12] : 66)

Le père, continuant d’être inquiet pour son fils, insista: Je ne l’enverrai jamais avec vous à moins que vous ne vous engagiez formellement au nom d’Allah à me le ramener indemne, sauf si tous veniez à mourir jusqu’au dernier. Après avoir obtenu d’eux cet engagement, il prit Allah à témoin en disant: Allah atteste de ce que nous avons dit et Son témoignage nous suffit.
