وَلَوْ اَنَّ لِلَّذِيْنَ ظَلَمُوْا مَا فِى الْاَرْضِ جَمِيْعًا وَّمِثْلَهٗ مَعَهٗ لَافْتَدَوْا بِهٖ مِنْ سُوْۤءِ الْعَذَابِ يَوْمَ الْقِيٰمَةِۗ وَبَدَا لَهُمْ مِّنَ اللّٰهِ مَا لَمْ يَكُوْنُوْا يَحْتَسِبُوْنَ ( الزمر: ٤٧ )
Wa law anna lillazeena zalamoo maa fil ardi jamee'anw wa mislahoo ma'ahoo laftadaw bihee min sooo'il azaabi Yawmal Qiyaamah; wa badaa lahum minal laahi maa lam yakkoonoo yahtasiboon (az-Zumar 39:47)
English Sahih:
And if those who did wrong had all that is in the earth entirely and the like of it with it, they would [attempt to] ransom themselves thereby from the worst of the punishment on the Day of Resurrection. And there will appear to them from Allah that which they had not taken into account. (Az-Zumar [39] : 47)
Muhammad Hamidullah:
Si les injustes possédaient tout ce qui se trouve sur la terre, - et autant encore -, ils l'offriraient comme rançon pour échapper au pire châtiment le Jour de la Résurrection; et leur apparaîtra, de la part d'Allah, ce qu'ils n'avaient jamais imaginé; (Az-Zumar [39] : 47)

Si ceux qui étaient injustes envers eux-mêmes, parce qu’ils mécroyaient et désobéissaient, possédaient toutes les richesses et les trésors de la Terre, ils les offriraient afin de se racheter et échapper au châtiment terrible qu’ils verront après leur ressuscitation, mais ils ne possèdent pas ces richesses et ces trésors. Et même s’ils les possédaient, leur requête ne serait pas acceptée et Allah leur montrera des variétés d’autres supplices auxquels ils ne s’attendront pas.
