كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَّالْاَحْزَابُ مِنْۢ بَعْدِهِمْ ۖوَهَمَّتْ كُلُّ اُمَّةٍۢ بِرَسُوْلِهِمْ لِيَأْخُذُوْهُ وَجَادَلُوْا بِالْبَاطِلِ لِيُدْحِضُوا بِهِ الْحَقَّ فَاَخَذْتُهُمْ ۗفَكَيْفَ كَانَ عِقَابِ ( غافر: ٥ )
Kazzabat qablahum qawmu Noohinw wal Ahzaabu mim ba'dihim wa hammat kullu ummatim bi Rasoolihim liyaa khuzoobhu wa jaadaloo bilbaatili liyudhidoo bihil haqqa fa akhaztuhum fakifa kaana 'iqaab (Ghāfir 40:5)
English Sahih:
The people of Noah denied before them and the [disbelieving] factions after them, and every nation intended [a plot] for their messenger to seize him, and they disputed by [using] falsehood to [attempt to] invalidate thereby the truth. So I seized them, and how [terrible] was My penalty. (Ghafir [40] : 5)
Muhammad Hamidullah:
Avant eux, le peuple de Noé a traité (Son Messager) de menteur, et les coalisés après eux (ont fait de même), et chaque communauté a conçu le dessein de s'emparer de Son Messager. Et ils ont discuté de faux arguments pour rejeter la vérité. Alors Je les ai saisis. Et quelle punition fut la Mienne! (Ghafir [40] : 5)

Avant ceux-là, le peuple de Noé a traité de menteur son messager et après le peuple de Noé les coalisés ont fait de même, ainsi que les ‘Âd, les Thamûd, le peuple de Loth, les habitants de Madyan et Pharaon. Tout peuple a eu l’intention de saisir son messager afin de le tuer et a polémiqué en prenant la défense du faux dans la finalité de faire disparaître le vrai. Ces peuples ont tous été punis par surprise. Vois donc comment Ma punitions fut sévère.
