وَقَالَ الَّذِيْنَ اَشْرَكُوْا لَوْ شَاۤءَ اللّٰهُ مَا عَبَدْنَا مِنْ دُوْنِهٖ مِنْ شَيْءٍ نَّحْنُ وَلَآ اٰبَاۤؤُنَا وَلَا حَرَّمْنَا مِنْ دُوْنِهٖ مِنْ شَيْءٍ ۗ كَذٰلِكَ فَعَلَ الَّذِيْنَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ ۚفَهَلْ عَلَى الرُّسُلِ اِلَّا الْبَلٰغُ الْمُبِيْنُ ( النحل: ٣٥ )
Waqala allatheena ashrakoo law shaa Allahu ma 'abadna min doonihi min shayin nahnu wala abaona wala harramna min doonihi min shayin kathalika fa'ala allatheena min qablihim fahal 'ala alrrusuli illa albalaghu almubeenu (an-Naḥl 16:35)

शिर्क करनेवालों का कहना है, 'यदि अल्लाह चाहता तो उससे हटकर किसी चीज़ की न हम बन्दगी करते और न हमारे बाप-दादा ही और न हम उसके बिना किसी चीज़ को अवैध ठहराते।' उनसे पहले के लोगों ने भी ऐसा ही किया। तो क्या साफ़-साफ़ सन्देश पहुँचा देने के सिवा रसूलों पर कोई और भी ज़िम्मेदारी है?
English Sahih:
And those who associate others with Allah say, "If Allah had willed, we would not have worshipped anything other than Him, neither we nor our fathers, nor would we have forbidden anything through other than Him." Thus did those do before them. So is there upon the messengers except [the duty of] clear notification? ([16] An-Nahl : 35)

और मुशरेकीन कहते हैं कि अगर ख़ुदा चाहता तो न हम ही उसके सिवा किसी और चीज़ की इबादत करते और न हमारे बाप दादा और न हम बग़ैर उस (की मर्ज़ी) के किसी चीज़ को हराम कर बैठते जो लोग इनसे पहले हो गुज़रे हैं वह भी ऐसे (हीला हवाले की) बातें कर चुके हैं तो (कहा करें) पैग़म्बरों पर तो उसके सिवा कि एहकाम को साफ साफ पहुँचा दे और कुछ भी नहीं
