An-Nur Verse 1

˹This is˺ a sûrah which We have revealed and made ˹its rulings˺ obligatory, and revealed in it clear commandments so that you may be mindful.

[This is] a Chapter which We have sent down and ordained, and sent down in it clear commandments so that you may take heed.

A sura that We have sent down and appointed; and We have sent down in it signs, clear signs, that haply you will remember.

This is a sura We have sent down and made obligatory: We have sent down clear revelations in it, so that you may take heed.

This is a chapter which We have sent down, and which We have ordained; and therein We have sent down revelations manifest, that haply ye may be admonished.

A sura which We have sent down and which We have ordained in it have We sent down Clear Signs, in order that ye may receive admonition.

This is a Surah which We have sent down and We have made it mandatory, and We have sent down clear Commandments in it so that you may learn lessons.

WE HAVE REVEALED this Surah and made it obligatory as We have sent down clear injunctions in it that you may be warned.

This is a chapter which We have sent down and decreed its commands, and in which We have sent down clear verses, in order that you may ponder.

[This is] a surah which We have sent down and prescribed, and We have sent down in it manifest signs so that you may take admonition.

(This is) a surah which We have sent down and made obligatory (the observance of the rules therein); and in it We have sent down clear explanations (of the truth about belief and unbelief) and instructions (concerning human life), so that you may reflect and be mindful.

(This is) a (highly dignified) Sûrah which We have revealed and (the ordinances of) which We have made obligatory and We have revealed in it clear commandments so that you may rise to great eminence.

A chapter of the Koran , We descended it, and We made it a duty/commanded it , and We descended in it verses/evidences evidences, maybe/perhaps you mention/remember .

This is a chapter which We have sent down and decreed its commands, and in which We have sent down clear verses, in order that you may ponder.

And say, "Lord, Forgive and have mercy, for you are the best of the merciful ones!"

(This is) a Surah (chapter of the Quran) which We have sent down and which We have enjoined, (ordained its legal laws) and in it We have revealed manifest Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations lawful and unlawful things, and set boundries of Islamic Religion), that you may remember.

And say: My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and Thou art the Best of those who show mercy.

(This is) a chapter which We have revealed and made obligatory and in which We have revealed clear communications that you may be mindful.

(Here is) a surah which We have revealed and enjoined, and wherein We have revealed plain tokens, that haply ye may take heed.

This is a chapter which We have revealed to you and made obligatory for you to follow its guidance. We have revealed clear verses in it so that perhaps you may take heed.

This is a chapter which We have sent down and appointed; and in it We have sent down clear verses in order that you will remember.

A Surah which We have sent down and which We have enjoined (Faradnaha), and in it We have revealed manifest Ayat, that you may remember.

This is a chapter which We have revealed and which We have made obligatory; We have sent down clear revelations in it, so that you may take heed.

A chapter that We have revealed, and made obligatory, and revealed in it clear Verses, that you may take heed.

This is, a sra which We have revealed and prescribed (read faradnh, or [the intensive form] farradnh, on account of the large number of prescriptions contained in it) and wherein We have revealed manifest signs, [signs] containing clear indications, that perhaps you might remember (tadhakkarna; the second t' [of tatadhakkarna] has been assimilated with the dhl), that you might be admonished.

The Importance of Surat An-Nur

Allah says;

سُورَةٌ أَنزَلْنَاهَا


A Surah which We have sent down,

Here Allah is pointing out the high esteem in which He holds this Surah, which is not to say that other Surahs are not important.

وَفَرَضْنَاهَا

and which We have enjoined,

Mujahid and Qatadah said,

"This means;We have explained what is lawful and unlawful, commands and prohibitions, and the prescribed punishments."

Al-Bukhari said, "Those who read it;Faradnaha, say that it means;

"We have enjoined them upon you and those who come after you."

وَأَنزَلْنَا فِيهَا ايَاتٍ بَيِّنَاتٍ

and in it We have revealed manifest Ayat,

means, clearly explained,

لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ



that you may remember.
