Ash-Shu'ara Verse 211

it is not for them ˹to do so˺, nor can they,

it is not for them to do this, nor is it within their capability,

it behoves them not, neither are they able.

it is neither in their interests nor in their power,

It behoveth them not, nor they can.

It would neither suit them nor would they be able (to produce it).

nor does it behove them, nor does it lie in their power.

They are not worthy of it, nor have they power.

They are unworthy of it, nor can they do it.

Neither does it behoove them, nor are they capable [of doing that].

It is neither (permitted nor proper) for them, nor is it within their power (to do that).

It does neither suit them nor have they the power (to reveal it).

And (it) should not (be) for them, and they are not able.

They are unworthy of it, nor can they do it.

No devils (or evil ones) brought down this revelation (the Quran);

Neither would it suit them, nor they can (produce it).

To remind. And We are never unjust.

And it behoves them not, and they have not the power to do (it).

It is not meet for them, nor is it in their power,

they are not supposed to do so. Nor do have they the ability for such a task.

it is not for them, nor are they able.

Neither would it suit them nor are they able.

neither are they worthy of it, nor are they capable of it,

It is not in their interests, nor in their power.

Neither would it behove, befit, them, to bring it down, nor are they capable, [of doing] that.

وَمَا يَنبَغِي لَهُمْ

Neither would it suit them,

وَمَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ



nor are they able.

meaning, even if they wanted to, they could not do it.

Allah says;

لَوْ أَنزَلْنَا هَـذَا الْقُرْءَانَ عَلَى جَبَلٍ لَّرَأَيْتَهُ خَـشِعاً مُّتَصَدِّعاً مِّنْ خَشْيَةِ اللَّهِ

Had We sent down this Qur'an on a mountain, you would surely have seen it humbling itself and rent asunder by the fear of Allah. (59;21)

Then Allah explains that even if they wanted to and were able to bear it and convey it, they still would not be able to achieve that, because they were prevented from hearing the Qur'an when it was brought down, for the heavens were filled with guardians and shooting stars at the time when the Qur'an was being revealed to the Messenger of Allah, so none of the Shayatin could hear even one letter of it, lest there be any confusion in the matter.

This is a part of Allah's mercy towards His servants, protection of His Laws, and support for His Book and His Messenger.

Allah says;

إِنَّهُمْ عَنِ السَّمْعِ لَمَعْزُولُونَ
