As-Saffat Verse 146

and caused a squash plant to grow over him.[[ The squash plant provided Jonah with shade and repelled harmful insects. ]]

and caused a gourd vine to grow over him.

and We caused to grow over him a tree of gourds.

and made a gourd tree grow above him.

And We caused to grow over him a tree, a gourd.

And We caused to grow, over him, a spreading plant of the gourd kind.

and caused a gourd tree to grow over him,

And We made a gourd tree grow over him.

And We grew a tree of gourd (as a shelter) above him.

So We made a gourd plant grow above him.

And caused a gourd plant to grow over him.

And We caused a plant (of the gourd type) bearing large-size fruit but the creeper of slender stem to grow near him.

And We sprouted/grew on him a tree from a plant without a stem/squashes and cucumbers.

And We grew a tree of gourd (as a shelter) above him.

And We caused a gourd plant to grow above him.

And We caused a plant of gourd to grow over him.

Then We cast him on the naked shore, while he was sick.

And We caused to grow up for him a gourdplant.

And We caused a tree of gourd to grow above him;

We made a plant of gourd grow up for him.

and We caused a pumpkin tree to grow over him.

And We caused a plant of gourd to grow over him.

and We caused a gourd tree to grow over him.

And We made a gourd tree grow over him.

And We made a gourd plant to grow above him, to provide shade for him with its stem, which is not the case usually with gourds, as a miracle for him; a mountain goat would come to him in the morning and in the evening and he would drink its milk, until he finally regained his strength.

And We caused a plant of gourd to grow over him.

Ibn Mas`ud and Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, Mujahid, Ikrimah, Sa`id bin Jubayr, Wahb bin Munabbih, Hilal bin Yasaf, Abdullah bin Tawus, As-Suddi, Qatadah, Ad-Dahhak, Ata' Al-Khurasani and several others, all said that;

"gourd means squash."

Some of them mentioned that the squash has a number of benefits;it grows quickly, its leaves offer shade because of their large size and smooth texture, flies do not come near it, and its fruits provide good nourishment; they may be eaten raw or cooked, and both the pulp and the peel may be eaten.

It was reported that the Messenger of Allah used to like squash and would look for it wherever it was on the serving dish.

وَأَرْسَلْنَاهُ إِلَى مِيَةِ أَلْفٍ أَوْ يَزِيدُونَ
