وَقَالُوْا لَوْ شَاۤءَ الرَّحْمٰنُ مَا عَبَدْنٰهُمْ ۗمَا لَهُمْ بِذٰلِكَ مِنْ عِلْمٍ اِنْ هُمْ اِلَّا يَخْرُصُوْنَۗ   ( الزخرف: ٢٠ )

And they say

we would not have worshipped them"

knowledge

إِلَّا

yakhruṣūna
يَخْرُصُونَ
lie

Wa qaaloo law shaaa'ar Rahmaanu maa 'abadnaahum; maa lahum bizaalika min 'ilmin in hum illaa yakhrusoon (az-Zukhruf 43:20)

Sahih International:

And they said, "If the Most Merciful had willed, we would not have worshipped them." They have of that no knowledge. They are not but misjudging. (Az-Zukhruf [43] : 20)

1 Mufti Taqi Usmani

They say, “Had the RaHmān so willed, we would not have worshipped them.” They have no knowledge of that. They do nothing but make conjectures.
