Ad-Dukhan Verse 56

There they will never taste death, beyond the first death. And He will protect them from the punishment of the Hellfire—

They will not taste death therein except the first death, and He will protect them from the punishment of the Blazing Fire,

They shall not taste therein of death, save the first death, And He shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell --

After the one death they will taste death no more. God will guard them from the torment of Hell,

They will not taste death therein, except the first death; and He will preserve them from the torment of the Flaming Fire.

Nor will they there taste Death, except the first death; and He will preserve them from the Penalty of the Blazing Fire,-

They shall not taste death except the death in this world. And Allah will save them from the chastisement of Hell

There they will not know any death apart from the first death they had died, and will be kept safe from the torment of Hell

They will not taste death again in it, except their former death; and Allah has saved them from the punishment of fire.

Other than the first death, they will not taste death therein, and He will save them from the punishment of hell

They will not taste death therein, except the first death (of leaving the world); and He has preserved them from the punishment of the Blazing Flame;

They will meet therein no death after the first death (met by them in the world). And Allâh saved them from the torment of the Hell.

They do not taste/experience in it the death/lifelessness except the first death, and He protected them (from) the Hell`s torture.

They will not taste death again in it, except their former death; and Allah has saved them from the punishment of fire.

They taste not death therein except the first death (i.e. in this physical life), and He will have saved them from the doom of hell,

They will never taste death therein except the first death (of this world), and He will save them from the torment of the blazing Fire,

They call therein for every fruit in security --

They shall not taste therein death except the first death, and He will save them from the punishment of the hell,

They taste not death therein, save the first death. And He hath saved them from the doom of hell,

They will not experience any death other than that which they have already been through.

There they shall not taste death, except the first death, and He will shield them from the punishment of Hell,

They will never taste death therein except the first death, and He will save them from the torment of the blazing Fire,

They will not taste death therein, save the first death. God will save them from the torment of Hell

Therein they will not taste death, beyond the first death; and He will protect them from the torment of Hell.

They will not taste death therein, other than the first death, namely, the one [that came] in this world after they had lived in it (some [scholars] think that ill, `other than', here means ba`da, `after'). And He will shield them from the chastisement of Hell-fire --

لَاا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا الْمَوْتَ إِلاَّ الْمَوْتَةَ الاْاُولَى

They will never taste death therein except the first death,

This is an exception which reinforces the negation. The meaning is that they will never taste death there.

It was reported in the Two Sahihs that the Messenger of Allah said;

يُوْتَى بِالْمَوْتِ فِي صُورَةِ كَبْشٍ أَمْلَحَ فَيُوقَفُ بَيْنَ الْجَنَّةِ وَالنَّارِ ثُمَّ يُذْبَحُ ثُمَّ يُقَالُ يَا أَهْلَ الْجَنَّةِ خُلُودٌ فَلَ مَوْتَ وَيَا أَهْلَ النَّارِ خُلُودٌ فَلَ مَوْت

Death will be brought forth in the image of a fine ram. It will be made to stand between Paradise and Hell, then it will be slaughtered. It will be said,

"O people of Paradise, it is eternal, no more death; and

O people of Hell, it is eternal, no more death."

This Hadith was already quoted in our discussion of Surah Maryam.

Abdur-Razzaq recorded that Abu Sa`id and Abu Hurayrah said,

The Messenger of Allah said;

يُقَالُ لاَِهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ

إِنَّ لَكُمْ أَنْ تَصِحُّوا فَلَ تَسْقَمُوا أَبَدًا وَإِنَّ لَكُمْ أَنْ تَعِيشُوا فَلَ تَمُوتُوا أَبَدًا وَإِنَّ لَكُمْ أَنْ تَنْعَمُوا فَلَ تَبْأَسُوا أَبَدًا وَإِنَّ لَكُمْ أَنْ تَشِبُّوا فَلَ تَهْرَمُوا أَبَدًا

It will be said to the people of Paradise,

"It is granted to you that you will be healthy and will never fall ill, you will live and never die, you will enjoy a life of luxury and will never be miserable, you will be youthful and will never grow old."

This was recorded by Muslim.

It was reported that Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, said,

The Messenger of Allah said;

مَنِ اتَّقَى اللهَ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ يَنْعَمُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَبْأَسُ وَيَحْيَا فِيهَا فَلَ يَمُوتُ لَا تَبْلَى ثِيَابُهُ وَلَا يَفْنَى شَبَابُه

"Whoever has Taqwa of Allah, he will enter Paradise and enjoy a life of luxury and he will never be miserable. He will live therein and never die, his clothes will never wear out and his youth will never fade."

وَوَقَاهُمْ عَذَابَ الْجَحِيمِ



and He will save them from the torment of the blazing Fire,

means, along with this great and eternal blessing, He will also have saved them from the agonizing torment in the depths of Hell, so they will have achieved their desired aim and avoided the thing they feared.

Allah says,

فَضْلً مِّن رَّبِّكَ ذَلِكَ هُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ
