Ad-Dukhan Verse 9

In fact, they are in doubt, amusing themselves.

But they are in doubt, amusing themselves.

Nay, but they are in doubt, playing.

yet in [their state of] doubt they take nothing seriously.

Aye! they're in doubt sporting.

Yet they play about in doubt.

(But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt.

Yet they are lost in doubt and play.

Rather they are in doubt, playing.

But they play around in doubt.

Yet (they do not desire certainty; instead) they are in an irrecoverable doubt, lost in the playthings of the worldly life.

Yet (they have no faith,) they are steeped in doubt (and) occupied with unreal things.

But they are in doubt/suspicion playing/amusing .

Rather they are in doubt, playing.

Nay, but they make sport in doubt,

Nay! They play in doubt.

There is no God but He; He gives life and causes death -- your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore.

Nay, they are in doubt, they sport.

Nay, but they play in doubt.

In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs.

Yet they are in doubt, playing.

Nay! They play about in doubt.

yet, they toy with their doubts.

Yet they play around in doubt.

Nay, but they linger in doubt, concerning the Resurrection, playing, in mockery of you, O Muhammad (s), and so he said, `My God, assist me against them with seven [years of drought] like the seven of Joseph'.

Alarming the Idolators with News of the Day when the Sky will bring forth a visible Smoke

Allah says,

بَلْ هُمْ فِي شَكٍّ يَلْعَبُونَ



Nay! They play about in doubt.

Allah says, these idolaters are playing about in doubt, i.e., the certain truth has come to them, but they doubt it and do not believe in it.

Then Allah says, warning and threatening them;

فَارْتَقِبْ يَوْمَ تَأْتِي السَّمَاء بِدُخَانٍ مُّبِينٍ
