Al-Hujurat Verse 4

Indeed, most of those who call out to you ˹O Prophet˺ from outside ˹your˺ private quarters have no understanding ˹of manners˺.[[ A group from the tribe of Bani Tamîm came to see the Prophet (ﷺ) while he was taking a nap in the afternoon. They stood outside the homes of his wives and started calling him out loud. ]]

As for those who call out to you [O Prophet] from behind the chambers, most of them have no understanding.

Surely those who call unto thee from behind the apartments, the most of them do not understand.

but most of those who shout to you [Prophet] from outside your private rooms lack understanding.

Verily those who call aloud Unto thee from without the inner apartments, most of them reflect not."

Those who shout out to thee from without the inner apartments - most of them lack understanding.

Surely most of those who call out to you, (O Prophet), from behind the apartments, are devoid of understanding.

Many of those who call you from outside the apartments are not considerate.

Indeed most of those who call you from outside the chambers do not have sense.

Indeed those who call you from behind the apartments, most of them do not use their reason.

Those who call out to you from behind the private apartments (which you share with your wives), most of them do not reason and understand (and are therefore lacking in good manners).

The people who call out to you (O Prophet of God!) from outside your (private) chambers (most of them) lack understanding.

That truly those who call you from behind the rooms/chambers, most of them do not reason/comprehend .

Indeed most of those who call you from outside the chambers do not have sense.

As for those who call out to you from behind the private apartments, surely most of them understand not.

Verily! Those who call you from behind the dwellings, most of them have no sense.

Surely those who lower their voices before Allah’s Messenger are they whose hearts Allah has proved for dutifulness. For them is forgiveness and a great reward.

(As for) those who call out to you from behind the private chambers, surely most of them do not understand.

Lo! those who call thee from behind the private apartments, most of them have no sense.

Most of those who call you from behind the private chambers do not have any understanding.

Whereas those who call out to you from behind the apartments, most of them lack understanding.

Verily, those who call you from behind the dwellings, most of them have no sense.

those who call out to you from outside your apartments are lacking in understanding.

Those who call you from behind the chambers—most of them do not understand.

The following was revealed regarding a group of people who came to see the Prophet (s) during the midday [resting] period while he was in his house, and called out to him; Truly those who call you from behind the apartments, the [private] chambers of his womenfolk (hujurt is the plural of hujra, which is an area of ground on which stones are laid [yuhjaru `alayhi] to form a wall or the like), and it happened that each one of them called out, in that rough and crude Bedouin manner, from behind one of the apartments, as they did not know in which apartment he was, most of them do not understand, given the way in which they acted, your exalted status and the reverence that befits it.

Admonishing Those Who call the Prophet from behind Dwellings

Allah says,

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُنَادُونَكَ مِن وَرَاء الْحُجُرَاتِ

Verily, those who call you from behind the dwellings,

Allah the Exalted and Most Blessed admonished those, such as the uncivilized Bedouins, who used to call to the Prophet from behind the dwellings which belong to his wives,

أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ



most of them have no sense.

Allah the Exalted and Most Honored then ordains the better behavior in this regard
