Al-Qamar Verse 20

that snatched people up, leaving them like trunks of uprooted palm trees.

sweeping people away, as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees.

plucking up men as if they were stumps of uprooted palm-trees.

it swept people away like uprooted palm trunks.

Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted.

Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground).

which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees.

Which snatched away men as though they were palm trees pulled out by the roots.

Smashing down men as if they were uprooted trunks of date palms.

knocking down people as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees.

Tearing people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees.

It (- the howling wind) tore the people away as though they were the hollowed stumps of uprooted palm-trees.

It removes/pulls the people as if they are extracted/dead palm trees` ends.

Smashing down men as if they were uprooted trunks of date palms.

Tearing men away as if they were the trunks of palm-trees uprooted.

Plucking out men as if they were uprooted stems of date-palms.

And certainly We left it as a sign, but is there any that will mind?

tearing people away, wrenching them from the holes in the ground in which they had been embedded and flinging them down [to the ground] head first, thereby crushing their necks and severing [their] heads from [their] bodies, as if they were, [while lying] in this mentioned state, trunks of uprooted palm-trees, severed and thrown on the ground -- they are likened to palm-trees because of their tallness (nakhlun, `palm-trees', is masculine here but feminine in [srat] al-Hqqa, nakhlun khwiya, `fallen down [or hollow] palm-trees', [Q. 69;7], in order to harmonise with the end-rhyme of the verses in both instances).

Plucking out men as if they were uprooted stems of date palms.

The wind would pluck one of them and raise him high, until he could no longer be seen, and then violently send him down on his head to the ground. His head would be smashed and only his body would be left, headless,

كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ مُّنقَعِرٍ

فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
