Al-Waqi'ah Verse 45

Indeed, before this ˹torment˺ they were spoiled by luxury,

Indeed, they used to be in luxuries before,

and before that they lived at ease,

Before, they overindulged in luxury

Verily they have been heretofore affluent.

For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury),

Surely they had lived before in luxury,

They were endowed with good things

Indeed they were among favours before this.

Indeed they had been affluent before this,

Indeed, before that, they were lost in excess of pleasures (without moral scruples);

They, of course, lived a life of ease and abundance before this (in the present world).

That they truly were before that luxuriated, ungrateful and arrogant.

Indeed they were among favours before this.

Surely they were before this made to live in ease and plenty.

Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury,

Neither cool nor refreshing.

Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty.

Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury

They had lived in luxury before this

Before they lived at ease,

Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury,

They had been affluent before,

They had lived before that in luxury.

Indeed before that, in the world, they used to live at ease, enjoying [life's] comforts, never wearying themselves with [an act of] obedience,

Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury,

meaning, in the life of the world, they were enjoying life's pleasures and satisfying their lusts, all the while ignoring what the Messengers brought to them
