Al-Hadid Verse 13

On that Day hypocrite men and women will beg the believers, “Wait for us so that we may have some of your light.” It will be said ˹mockingly˺, “Go back ˹to the world˺ and seek a light ˹there˺!” Then a ˹separating˺ wall with a gate will be erected between them. On the near side will be grace and on the far side will be torment.[[ This wall is said to be the barrier of Al-A’râf (or the heights) between Paradise and Hell. See {7:46}-49.]]

On that Day the hypocrite men and women will say to those who believe, “Wait for us, so that we may have some of your light.” It will be said, “Go back and seek light elsewhere.” Then a wall will be placed between them, which will have a gate, on the inside of which there will be mercy and on the outside there will be punishment.

Upon the day when the hypocrites, men and women, shall say to those who have believed, 'Wait for us, so that we may borrow your light!' It shall be said, 'Return you back behind, and seek for a light!' And a wall shall be set up between them, having a door in the inward whereof is mercy, and against the outward thereof is chastisement.

On the same Day, the hypocrites, both men and women, will say to the believers, ‘Wait for us! Let us have some of your light!’ They will be told, ‘Go back and look for a light.’ A wall with a door will be erected between them: inside it lies mercy, outside lies torment.

It shall be the Day whereon the hypocritical men and hypocritical women will say Unto those who believe: wait for us that we may borrow some of your light. Then betwixt them there will be set a high wall, wherein will be a door, the inside whereof hath mercy, while the outside thereof is toward the torment.

One Day will the Hypocrites- men and women - say to the Believers; "Wait for us! Let us borrow (a Light) from your Light!" It will be said; "Turn ye back to your rear! then seek a Light (where ye can)!" So a wall will be put up betwixt them, with a gate therein. Within it will be Mercy throughout, and without it, all alongside, will be (Wrath and) Punishment!

On that Day the hypocrites, both men and women, shall say to the believers: “Look at us that we may extract some light from your light.” They will be told: “Go back and seek light for yourselves elsewhere.” Then a wall shall be erected between them with a door in it. On the inside of it there will be mercy, and on the outside of it there will be chastisement.

The day the hypocrites, men and women, will say to the believers: "Wait for us that we may borrow a little light from your light," they will be told: "Go back, and look for your light." A wall shall be raised between them in which there will be a door. Within it will be benevolence and retribution without.

The day when hypocrite men and hypocrite women will say to the Muslims, “Look mercifully towards us, so that we may gain some of your light!”; it will be said to them, “Turn back, search light over there!”; so they will turn around, whereupon a wall will be erected between them, in which is a gate; inside the gate is mercy, and on the outer side is the punishment.

The day the hypocrites, men and women, will say to the faithful, ‘Please wait, that we may glean something from your light!’ They will be told: ‘Go back and grope for light!’ Then there will be set up between them a wall with a gate, with mercy within and punishment without.

On that Day the hypocritical men and the hypocritical women will say to those who believe: "Wait for us that we may have some light from your light." It will be said: "Turn back (if you can, to the world where such light was to be obtained), and seek light (through your deeds you did there)." Just then a wall of separation will be put between them, with a gate therein (through which the hypocrites, so as to increase their regret, will observe the state of the believers). The inner side of the wall (which will separate the believers from the hypocrites) – there will be in it the mercy (of eternal happiness), and outside it there will be the punishment (of eternal doom)

That day the hypocritical men and hypocritical women will say to those who believe, `Wait for us so that we might obtain some illumination from your (this) light.´ It will be said to them, `Go back (if you can) and seek for light.´ Then a wall with a gateway will be set up separating them (and the believers). The inside of it will be all mercy (where the righteous have to go) and the outside of it shall be facing torment (where the hypocrites have to stay).

A day/time the hypocrites (M) and the hypocrites (F) say to those who believed: "Give us time we learn/benefit from your light." (It) is/was said: "Return behind you , so feel/seek a light." So it wasseparated between them with a fence/wall, for it (is) a door/entrance its interior/ secret in it (is) the mercy, and its exterior from its direction/front (is) the torture.

The day when hypocrite men and hypocrite women will say to the Muslims, “Look mercifully towards us, so that we may gain some of your light!”; it will be said to them, “Turn back, search light over there!”; so they will turn around, whereupon a wall will be erected between them, in which is a gate; inside the gate is mercy, and on the outer side is the punishment.

On the day when the hypocritical men and the hypocritical women will say to those who believe, "Wait for us, that we may borrow a light from your light"; it shall be said, "Turn back and seek a light." Then there will separate them a wall having a door in it, whereof the inner side contains mercy, while the outer side faces wrath and doom.

On the Day when the hypocrites men and women will say to the believers: "Wait for us! Let us get something from your light!" It will be said: "Go back to your rear! Then seek a light!" So a wall will be put up between them, with a gate therein. Inside it will be mercy, and outside it will be torment."

On that day thou wilt see the faithful men and the faithful women, their light gleaming before them and on their right hand. Good news for you this day! -- Gardens wherein rivers flow, to abide therein! That is the grand achievement.

On the day when the hypocritical men and the hypocritical women will say to those who believe: Wait for us, that we may have light from your light; it shall be said: Turn back and seek a light. Then separation would be brought about between them, with a wall having a door in it; (as for) the inside of it, there shall be mercy in it, and (as for) the outside of it, before it there shall be punishment.

On the day when the hypocritical men and the hypocritical women will say unto those who believe: Look on us that we may borrow from your light! it will be said: Go back and seek for light! Then there will separate them a wall wherein is a gate, the inner side whereof containeth mercy, while the outer side thereof is toward the doom.

On that day the hypocrites will say to the believers, "Please look at us so that we might benefit from your light." They will be told, "Go back and search for your own light." A barrier with a door will be placed between them. Inside it there will be mercy but outside of it there will be torment.

On that Day the hypocrites, both men and women, will say to the believers: 'Wait for us so that we can take from your light' But they will be answered: 'Go back and seek a light' And a wall with a door shall be between them. Inside it there is mercy, and outside will be the punishment.

On the Day when the hypocrites men and women will say to the believers: "Wait for us! Let us get something from your light!" It will be said: "Go back to your rear! Then seek a light!" So, a wall will be put up between them, with a gate therein. Inside it will be mercy, and outside it will be torment.

On that Day, the hypocrites, both men and women, will say to the faithful, "Wait a while for us, so that we may have some of your light." They will be told, "Turn back and look for a light elsewhere." A wall will then be raised between them. It will have a gate on the inside of which will be grace and mercy and on the outside of which will be punishment.

On the Day when the hypocritical men and hypocritical women will say to those who believed, “Wait for us; let us absorb some of your light.” It will be said, “Go back behind you, and seek light.” A wall will be raised between them, in which is a door; within it is mercy, and outside it is agony.

The day when the hypocrites, men and women, will say to those who believe, `Look at us (unzurn; a variant reading has anzirn, meaning `Give us a chance') that we may glean something of your light!' It will be said, to them in mockery of them; `Step back and seek light!' So they step back, then there will be set up between them, and the believers, a wall -- this is said to be the wall of `the Heights' [cf. Q. 7;46] -- with a gate, the inner side of which contains mercy, the side of the believers, and the outer side of which, the side of the hypocrites, faces toward the chastisement.

يَوْمَ يَقُولُ الْمُنَافِقُونَ وَالْمُنَافِقَاتُ لِلَّذِينَ امَنُوا انظُرُونَا نَقْتَبِسْ مِن نُّورِكُمْ

On the Day when the hypocrites men and women will say to the believers;"Wait for us! Let us get something from your light!"

Allah informs us in this Ayah of the terrible horrors, horrendous incidents and tremendous events that will take place on the Day of Resurrection in the Gathering Area. No one will be saved on that Day, except those who believed in Allah and His Messenger, obeyed Allah's commands and avoided His prohibitions.

Al-`Awfi, Ad-Dahhak and others reported from Ibn Abbas;

"When the people are gathering in darkness, Allah will send light, and when the believers see the light they will march towards it. This light will be their guide from Allah to Paradise. When the hypocrites see the believers following the light, they will follow them. However, Allah will extinguish the light for the hypocrites and they will say (to the believers),
انظُرُونَا نَقْتَبِسْ مِن نُّورِكُمْ
(Wait for us! Let us get something from your light). The believers will reply (
قِيلَ
) by saying,
ارْجِعُوا وَرَاءكُمْ
(Go back to your rear!) to the dark area you were in, and
فَالْتَمِسُوا نُورًا
(Then seek a light!) look for a light there!"'

Allah said,

فَضُرِبَ بَيْنَهُم بِسُورٍ لَّهُ بَابٌ بَاطِنُهُ فِيهِ الرَّحْمَةُ وَظَاهِرُهُ مِن قِبَلِهِ الْعَذَابُ



So, a wall will be put up between them, with a gate therein. Inside it will be mercy, and outside it will be torment.

Al-Hasan and Qatadah said that the wall mentioned here is located between Paradise and Hellfire.

Abdur-Rahman bin Zayd bin Aslam said that the wall mentioned in this Ayah is the wall that Allah described in His statement,

وَبَيْنَهُمَا حِجَابٌ

And between them will be a (barrier) screen. (7;46)

Similar was reported from Mujahid and others, and it is correct.

Allah said,

بَاطِنُهُ فِيهِ الرَّحْمَةُ
(Inside it will be mercy), meaning, Paradise and all that is in it,

وَظَاهِرُهُ مِن قِبَلِهِ الْعَذَابُ
(and outside it will be torment). meaning, the Hellfire,

This is according to Qatadah, Ibn Zayd and others.

Allah said
