Al-'Alaq Verse 9

Have you seen the man who prevents

Have you seen the one who prevents

What thinkest thou? He who forbids

Have you seen the man who forbids

Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth,

Seest thou one who forbids-

Did you see him who forbids

Have you seen him who restrains

What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids –

Tell me, he who forbids

Have you considered the one who would impede and forbid

Have you considered (the case of one) who forbids

Did you see/understand who forbids/prevents

What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids -

Have you considered him who forbids

Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents,

A servant when he prays?

Have you seen him who forbids

Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth

Have you seen the one who prohibits

What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids

Have you seen him who prevents

Have you seen one who prevents

Have you seen him who prevents?

Have you seen (a-ra'ayta in all three instances [here and below] is an exclamation of wonder) him, namely, Ab Jahl, who forbids

عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّى

What do you think of the one who forbids
