فَلَمَّا فَصَلَ طَالُوْتُ بِالْجُنُوْدِ قَالَ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ مُبْتَلِيْكُمْ بِنَهَرٍۚ فَمَنْ شَرِبَ مِنْهُ فَلَيْسَ مِنِّيْۚ وَمَنْ لَّمْ يَطْعَمْهُ فَاِنَّهٗ مِنِّيْٓ اِلَّا مَنِ اغْتَرَفَ غُرْفَةً ۢبِيَدِهٖ ۚ فَشَرِبُوْا مِنْهُ اِلَّا قَلِيْلًا مِّنْهُمْ ۗ فَلَمَّا جَاوَزَهٗ هُوَ وَالَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا مَعَهٗۙ قَالُوْا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا الْيَوْمَ بِجَالُوْتَ وَجُنُوْدِهٖ ۗ قَالَ الَّذِيْنَ يَظُنُّوْنَ اَنَّهُمْ مُّلٰقُوا اللّٰهِ ۙ كَمْ مِّنْ فِئَةٍ قَلِيْلَةٍ غَلَبَتْ فِئَةً كَثِيْرَةً ۢبِاِذْنِ اللّٰهِ ۗ وَاللّٰهُ مَعَ الصّٰبِرِيْنَ ( البقرة: ٢٤٩ )
Falammaa fasala Taalootu biljunoodi qaala innal laaha mubtaleekum binaharin faman shariba minhu falaisa minnee wa mallam yat'amhu fa innahoo minneee illaa manigh tarafa ghurfatam biyadih; fashariboo minhu illaa qaleelamminhum; falammaa jaawazahoo huwa wallazeena aamanoo ma'ahoo qaaloo laa taaqata lanal yawma bi Jaaloota wa junoodih; qaalallazeena yazunnoona annahum mulaaqul laahi kam min fi'atin qaleelatin ghalabat fi'atan kaseeratam bi iznil laah; wallaahuma'as saabireen (al-Baq̈arah 2:249)
English Sahih:
And when Saul went forth with the soldiers, he said, "Indeed, Allah will be testing you with a river. So whoever drinks from it is not of me, and whoever does not taste it is indeed of me, excepting one who takes [from it] in the hollow of his hand." But they drank from it, except a [very] few of them. Then when he had crossed it along with those who believed with him, they said, "There is no power for us today against Goliath and his soldiers." But those who were certain that they would meet Allah said, "How many a small company has overcome a large company by permission of Allah. And Allah is with the patient." (Al-Baqarah [2] : 249)
Karakunnu/Elayavoor (കാരകുന്ന് & എളയാവൂര്):
അങ്ങനെ പട്ടാളവുമായി ത്വാലൂത്ത് പുറപ്പെട്ടപ്പോള് പറഞ്ഞു: 'അല്ലാഹു ഒരു നദികൊണ്ട് നിങ്ങളെ പരീക്ഷിക്കാന് പോവുകയാണ്. അതില്നിന്ന് കുടിക്കുന്നവനാരോ, അവന് എന്റെ കൂട്ടത്തില് പെട്ടവനല്ല. അത് രുചിച്ചുനോക്കാത്തവനാരോ അവനാണ് എന്റെ അനുയായി. എന്നാല് തന്റെ കൈകൊണ്ട് ഒരു കോരല് എടുത്തവന് ഇതില് നിന്നൊഴിവാണ്.' പക്ഷേ, അവരില് ചുരുക്കം ചിലരൊഴികെ എല്ലാവരും അതില്നിന്ന് കുടിച്ചു. അങ്ങനെ ത്വാലൂത്തും കൂടെയുള്ള വിശ്വാസികളും ആ നദി മുറിച്ചുകടന്നു മുന്നോട്ടുപോയപ്പോള് അവര് പറഞ്ഞു: 'ജാലൂത്തിനെയും അയാളുടെ സൈന്യത്തെയും നേരിടാനുള്ള കഴിവ് ഇന്ന് ഞങ്ങള്ക്കില്ല.' എന്നാല് അല്ലാഹുവുമായി കണ്ടുമുട്ടേണ്ടിവരുമെന്ന വിചാരമുള്ളവര് പറഞ്ഞു: 'എത്രയെത്ര ചെറുസംഘങ്ങളാണ് അല്ലാഹുവിന്റെ അനുമതിയോടെ വന്സംഘങ്ങളെ ജയിച്ചടക്കിയത്; അല്ലാഹു ക്ഷമിക്കുന്നവരോടൊപ്പമാണ്.' (അല്ബഖറ [2] : 249)

അങ്ങനെ സൈന്യവുമായി പുറപ്പെട്ടപ്പോള് ത്വാലൂത് പറഞ്ഞു: അല്ലാഹു ഒരു നദി മുഖേന നിങ്ങളെ പരീക്ഷിക്കുന്നതാണ്. അപ്പോള് ആര് അതില് നിന്ന് കുടിച്ചുവോ അവന് എൻ്റെ കൂട്ടത്തില് പെട്ടവനല്ല. ആരതു രുചിച്ച് നോക്കാതിരുന്നുവോ അവന് എൻ്റെ കൂട്ടത്തില് പെട്ടവനാകുന്നു. എന്നാല് തൻ്റെ കൈ കൊണ്ട് ഒരിക്കല് മാത്രം കോരിയവന് ഇതില് നിന്ന് ഒഴിവാണ്. അവരില് നിന്ന് ചുരുക്കം പേരൊഴികെ അതില് നിന്ന് കുടിച്ചു. അങ്ങനെ അദ്ദേഹവും കൂടെയുള്ള വിശ്വാസികളും ആ നദി കടന്നു കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് അവര് പറഞ്ഞു: ജാലൂതി (ഗോലിയത്ത്) നെയും അവൻ്റെ സൈന്യങ്ങളെയും നേരിടാന് മാത്രമുള്ള കഴിവ് ഇന്ന് നമുക്കില്ല. തങ്ങള് അല്ലാഹുവുമായി കണ്ടുമുട്ടേണ്ടവരാണ് എന്ന ഉറപ്പുള്ളവര് പറഞ്ഞു: എത്രയെത്ര ചെറിയ സംഘങ്ങളാണ് അല്ലാഹുവിൻ്റെ അനുമതിയോടെ വലിയ സംഘങ്ങളെ കീഴ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുള്ളത്! അല്ലാഹു ക്ഷമിക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൂടെയാകുന്നു.
