Quraysh Verse 2

secure in their trading caravan ˹to Yemen˺ in the winter and ˹Syria˺ in the summer—

secure in their winter and summer journeys.

secure in their winter and summer journeys.

For their keeping to the journey in the winter and the summer-

Their covenants (covering) journeys by winter and summer,-

accustomed to the journey of winter and summer,

United to fit out caravans winter and summer,

(We) gave them alliances during both their travels of winter and summer.

their solidarity during winter and summer journeys,

Their concord and security in their winter and summer journeys,

(And also) for their covenants of journeying (by taking caravans) in winter (to the south) and in summer (to the north).

Their unification/familiarization (with) the winter`s and the summer`s travel/journey .

(We) gave them alliances during both their travels of winter and summer.

Their covenant covers their caravans in winter and summer.

(And with all those Allah's Grace and Protections for their taming, We cause) the (Quraish) caravans to set forth safe in winter (to the south), and in summer (to the north without any fear),

Their protection during their journey in the winter and the summer.

Their protection during their trading caravans in the winter and the summer--

For their taming (We cause) the caravans to set forth in winter and summer.

Quraish should worship the Lord of this House.

Their Ilaf caravans, in winter and in summer.

Their security during winter and summer journeys.

their security (lfihim; repeated for emphasis; it is a verbal noun from [the verb] lafa) for the journey of winter, to Yemen, and, the journey, of summer, to Syria, every year; they made use of these two journeys to provide for their trade at the station [of Abraham] in Mecca, in order to attend to the House [of God], which was their source of pride; they [Quraysh] were the descendants of al-Nadr b. Kinna;

Their Ilaf caravans, in winter and in summer.

Ibn Jarir said,

"The correct opinion is that the letter Lam is a prefix that shows amazement. It is as though He (Allah) is saying,

`You should be amazed at the uniting (or taming) of the Quraysh and My favor upon them in that."'

He went on to say,

"This is due to the consensus of the Muslims that they are two separate and independent Surahs."

Then Allah directs them to be grateful for this magnificent favor in His saying,

فَلْيَعْبُدُوا رَبَّ هَذَا الْبَيْتِ
