Al-Mu'minun Verse 34

And if you ˹ever˺ obey a human like yourselves, then you would certainly be losers.

If you obey a man like yourselves, you will surely be losers.

If you obey a mortal like yourselves, then you will be losers.

and you will really be losers if you obey a mortal like yourselves.

And were ye to obey a human being like you, ye are forthwith to be losers.

"If ye obey a man like yourselves, behold, it is certain ye will be lost.

If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, you will certainly be losers.

So if you follow a man like yourself you will certainly be doomed.

“If you were to obey a human like yourselves, then surely you are losers!”

If you obey a human being like yourselves, you will indeed be losers.

"If you obey a mortal like yourselves, then you will surely be the losers.

`And, surely, if you obey a human being like yourselves you will then be the losers indeed.

And if (E) you obeyed a human equal to you , that you are then losers (E)

"If you were to obey a human like yourselves, then surely you are losers!"

If you obey a mortal like yourselves, verily, you will then be surely losers

"If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, then verily! You indeed would be losers.

And the chiefs of His people who disbelieved and called the meeting of the Hereafter a lie, and whom We had given plenty to enjoy in this world’s life, said: This is only a mortal like you, eating of that whereof you eat and drinking of what you drink.

And if you obey a mortal like yourselves, then most surely you will be losers:

If ye were to obey a mortal like yourselves, then, lo! ye surely would be losers.

If you follow a mortal like yourselves you will certainly be lost.

If you obey a mortal like yourselves, you shall be lost.

"If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, then verily, you indeed would be losers."

if you obey a human being just like yourselves, then you will surely be lost.

If you obey a human being like yourselves, then you will be losers.

And, by God, if you obey a human being like yourselves (this [clause] contains both an oath and a conditional; the response belongs to the former [the oath], which [at the same time] suffices in place of a response for the latter [the conditional]) you will surely then, that is, should you obey them, be losers, you will have been duped.

Then, after them, We created another generation. And We sent to them a Messenger from among themselves (saying);"Worship Allah! You have no other God but Him. Will you not then have Taqwa!"

And the chiefs of his people who disbelieved and denied the meeting in the Hereafter, and whom We had given the luxuries and comforts of worldly life, said;"He is no more than a human being like you, he eats of that which you eat, and drinks of what you drink. If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, then verily, you indeed would be losers."

Allah tells us that after the people of Nuh, He created another nation.

It was said that this was `Ad, because they were the successors of the people of Nuh.

Or it was said that they were Thamud, because Allah says;
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ بِالْحَقِّ
(So, the Sayhah overtook them in truth).

Allah sent to them a Messenger from among themselves, and he called them to worship Allah Alone with no partner or associate, but they belied him, opposed him and refused to follow him because he was a human being like them, and they refused to follow a human Messenger. They did not believe in the meeting with Allah on the Day of Resurrection and they denied the idea of physical resurrection.

They said;

أَيَعِدُكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ إِذَا مِتُّمْ وَكُنتُمْ تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَنَّكُم مُّخْرَجُونَ

And", they added, "should you follow a man like yourselves your hopes shall be doomed to disappointment and you will he great losers
