وَلَوْلَآ اِذْ سَمِعْتُمُوْهُ قُلْتُمْ مَّا يَكُوْنُ لَنَآ اَنْ نَّتَكَلَّمَ بِهٰذَاۖ سُبْحٰنَكَ هٰذَا بُهْتَانٌ عَظِيْمٌ  ( النور: ١٦ )

وَلَوْلَآ
And why not

سَمِعْتُمُوهُ
you heard it

قُلْتُم
you said
مَّا
"Not
yakūnu
يَكُونُ
it is
lanā
لَنَآ
for us
an
أَن
that
natakallama
نَّتَكَلَّمَ
we speak
bihādhā
بِهَٰذَا
of this
sub'ḥānaka
سُبْحَٰنَكَ
Glory be to You!
hādhā
هَٰذَا
This
buh'tānun
بُهْتَٰنٌ
(is) a slander
ʿaẓīmun
عَظِيمٌ
great?"

Wa law laaa iz sami'tu moohu qultum maa yakoonu lanaaa an natakallama bihaazaa Subhaanaka haaza buhtaanun 'azeem (an-Nūr 24:16)

Sahih International:

And why, when you heard it, did you not say, "It is not for us to speak of this. Exalted are You, [O Allah]; this is a great slander"? (An-Nur [24] : 16)

And why, when you heard of it, did you not say, “It is not for us to speak about this. Pure are You (O Allah). This is a terrible calumny.”
