Ash-Shu'ara Verse 20

Moses replied, “I did it then, lacking guidance.

He said, “I did it when I had no guidance.

Said he, 'Indeed I did it then, being one of those that stray;

Moses replied, ‘I was misguided when I did it

He said: I did it then when I was mistaken.

Moses said; "I did it then, when I was in error.

Moses replied: "I committed that act erringly.

(Moses) replied: "I did do that and I was in the wrong,

Said Moosa, “I did that at a time when I was unaware of the consequences.” (In anger – See verse 28:15)

He said, ‘I did that when I was astray.

(Moses) said: "I committed that deed unintentionally when I did not know (it would end in the way it did.)

(Moses) said, `Indeed I did it (then inadvertently and) as I was lost (for the love of my people and was in a perplexed state of mind).

He said: "I made/did it then, and (while) I am from the misguided."

Said Moosa, “I did that at a time when I was unaware of the consequences.” (In anger)

"And you did do a deed which you know you did do (he slew an Egyptian), and you are of the ungrateful!"

Musa (Moses) said: "I did it then, when I was an ignorant (as regards my Lord and His Message).

And thou didst (that) deed of thine which thou didst and thou art of the ungrateful ones.

He said: I did it then while I was of those unable to see the right course;

He said: I did it then, when I was of those who are astray.

Moses said, "I did do it and I made a mistake.

He (Moses) replied: 'Indeed, I did that when I was among those who stray.

Musa said: "I did it then, when I was in error."

Moses replied, "I did that when I was one of the misguided,

He said, “I did it then, when I was of those astray.

He, Moses, said, `I did that then, when I was astray, from the knowledge and the Message which God would later give me.

قَالَ فَعَلْتُهَا إِذًا

(Musa) said;"I did it then..."

meaning, at that time,

وَأَنَا مِنَ الضَّالِّينَ



when I was in error.

meaning, `before revelation was sent to me and before Allah made me a Prophet and sent me with this Message.'

فَفَرَرْتُ مِنكُمْ لَمَّا خِفْتُكُمْ فَوَهَبَ لِي رَبِّي حُكْمًا وَجَعَلَنِي مِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ
