An-Naml Verse 27

Solomon said, “We will see whether you are telling the truth or lying.

Solomon said, “We will see whether you have told the truth or you are one of the liars.

Said he, 'Now We will see whether thou hast spoken truly, or whether thou art amongst those that lie.

Solomon said, ‘We shall see whether you are telling the truth or lying.

Sulaiman said: we shall see now whether thou hast spoken the truth or whether thou art of the liars.

(Solomon) said; "Soon shall we see whether thou hast told the truth or lied!

Solomon said: "Soon shall we see whether you have spoken the truth or are one of those that lie.

(Solomon) said: 'We shall see if you speak the truth or you are a liar.

Said Sulaiman, “We shall now see whether you spoke the truth or are among the liars.”

He said, ‘We shall see whether you are truthful, or if you are one of the liars.

(Solomon) said: "We will see whether you are speaking the truth or are one of the liars.

(Thereupon Solomon) said, `We will now look into it and see whether you have spoken the truth or whether you are of the liars.

He said: "We will look/see , had you been truthful, or you were from the liars/falsifiers ."

Said Sulaiman, “We shall now see whether you spoke the truth or are among the liars.”

"Allah, there is no God but He, the Lord of the Mighty Throne!"

[Sulaiman (Solomon)] said: "We shall see whether you speak the truth or you are (one) of the liars.

So that they worship not Allah, Who brings forth what is hidden in the heavens and the earth and knows what you hide and what you proclaim.

He said: We will see whether you have told the truth or whether you are of the liars:

(Solomon) said: We shall see whether thou speakest truth or whether thou art of the liars.

Solomon said, "We shall see whether you are truthful or a liar.

He replied: 'We shall see if what you have said is true or whether you are among those who lie.

(Sulayman) said: "We shall see whether you speak the truth or you are (one) of the liars."

Solomon said, "We shall soon see whether you have spoken the truth, or whether you are a liar.

He said, “We will see, whether you have spoken the truth, or whether you are a liar.

He, Solomon, said, to the hoopoe; `We shall see whether you have spoken the truth, in what you have informed us, or whether you are of the liars, that is, of their ilk -- for [to say] that is rhetorically more powerful than [simply] saying `or whether you have lied'. He [the hoopoe] indicated to them the place of the water and it was extracted. They thus drank, performed their ablutions and prayed. Solomon then composed a letter in the following form; `From the servant of God, Solomon son of David, to Bilqs, Queen of Sheba. In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful; Peace be upon those who follow Guidance. To wit; do not rise up against me [in defiance], but come to me in submission'. He then stamped it with musk and sealed it with his ring, and said to the hoopoe;

Suleiman's Letter to Bilqis

Allah tells us what Suleiman said to the hoopoe when he told him about the people of Saba' and their queen;

قَالَ سَنَنظُرُ أَصَدَقْتَ أَمْ كُنتَ مِنَ الْكَاذِبِينَ



(Suleiman) said;"We shall see whether you speak the truth or you are (one) of the liars."

meaning, `are you telling the truth!'

أَمْ كُنتَ مِنَ الْكَاذِبِينَ
(or you are (one) of the liars).

meaning, `or are you telling a lie in order to save yourself from the threat I made against you!'

اذْهَب بِّكِتَابِي هَذَا فَأَلْقِهْ إِلَيْهِمْ ثُمَّ تَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ فَانظُرْ مَاذَا يَرْجِعُونَ
