اَفَمَنْ كَانَ مُؤْمِنًا كَمَنْ كَانَ فَاسِقًاۗ لَا يَسْتَوٗنَ  ( السجدة: ١٨ )

defiantly disobedient?

يَسْتَوُۥنَ
they are equal

Afaman kaana mu'minan kaman kaana faasiqaa; laa yasta woon (as-Sajdah 32:18)

Sahih International:

Then is one who was a believer like one who was defiantly disobedient? They are not equal. (As-Sajdah [32] : 18)

So, can one who is a believer become like one who is a sinner? They cannot become equal.
