Sad Verse 69

˹And say,˺ “I had no knowledge of the highest assembly ˹in heaven˺ when they differed ˹concerning Adam˺.[[ When the angels obeyed Allah’s orders to prostrate before Adam, whereas Satan refused to comply.]]

[And say], “I had no knowledge of the highest assembly [of angels] when they were disputing [about Adam].

I had no knowledge of the High Council when they disputed.

I have no knowledge of what those on high discuss:

I had no knowledge of the chiefs on high when they disputed;

"No knowledge have I of the Chiefs on high, when they discuss (matters) among themselves.

(Tell them): “I had no knowledge of the High Council when they were disputing.

I had no knowledge of the higher Assembly when they discussed it among themselves.

“What did I know of the heavenly world, when the angels had disputed.”

I have no knowledge of the Supernal Elite when they contend.

"I had no knowledge of the High Assembly (in the heavens) when they were arguing.

`I had no knowledge of the Exalted assembly (comprising of the angels in the upper zones) when they discussed (the matter) among themselves.

(There) was not from knowledge to me with the group/assembly/nobles, the highest/mightiest when they dispute/controvert/argue.

“What did I know of the heavenly world, when the angels had disputed.”

"1 had no knowledge of the Exalted Chiefs (in heaven) when they discussed (affairs):

"I had no knowledge of the chiefs (angels) on high when they were disputing and discussing (about the creation of Adam).

From which you turn away.

I had no knowledge of the exalted chiefs when they contended:

I had no knowledge of the Highest Chiefs when they disputed;

I have no knowledge of the dispute among the angels (concerning their attitude towards Adam).

I had no knowledge of the High Assembly's dispute.

"I had no knowledge of the chiefs (angels) on high when they were disputing and discussing."

I had no knowledge of the Exalted Assembly when they argued [against the creation of man]:

I have no knowledge of the Highest Assembly as they dispute.

I had no knowledge of the High Council, that is to say, [of] the angels, when they disputed, in the matter of Adam, when God, exalted be He, said [to them]; `I am appointing on earth a vicegerent', to the end [of the verse, Q. 2;30].

I had no knowledge of the chiefs (angels) on high when they were disputing and discussing.

meaning, `were it not for the divine revelation, how could I have known about the dispute of the chiefs on high (the angels)?'

This refers to their dispute concerning Adam, peace be upon him, and how Iblis refused to prostrate to him and argued with his Lord because He preferred him (Adam) over him.

This is what Allah says;

إِن يُوحَى إِلَيَّ إِلاَّ أَنَّمَا أَنَا نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ
