Ghafir Verse 84

When they saw Our punishment, they cried, “˹Now˺ we believe in Allah alone and reject what we had been associating with Him!”

But when they saw Our punishment, they said, “We believe in Allah alone, and we reject what we used to associate with Him.”

Then, when they saw Our might, they said, 'We believe in God alone, and we disbelieve in that we were associating with Him.'

when they saw Our punishment, they said, ‘We believe in God alone; we reject any partner we ascribed to Him,’

Then when they behold Our prowess, they said: we believe in Allah alone, and we disbelieve in that which with Him we have been associating.

But when they saw Our Punishment, they said; "We believe in Allah,- the one Allah - and we reject the partners we used to join with Him."

When they saw Our chastisement, they said: “We have come to believe in Allah, the Only One, and we reject all what we had associated (with Allah in His Divinity).”

So that when they saw Our might, they said: "We believe in God the one and single, and reject those we associated (with Him)." --

So when they saw Our punishment, they said, “We accept faith in the One Allah, and reject those whom we ascribed with Him.”

Then, when they sighted Our punishment, they said, ‘We believe in Allah alone, and disavow what we used to take as His partners.’

Then when they saw Our mighty punishment, they exclaimed: "We have come to believe in God as One and rejected all that we used to associate (with Him)!"

So when they saw Our punishment they said, `We believe in Allâh alone, and We reject (all) that we used to associate with Him.´

So when they saw/understood Our might/power they said: "We believed with (in) God alone, and we disbelieved with what we were with Him sharing/making partners

So when they saw Our punishment, they said, “We accept faith in the One Allah, and reject those whom we ascribed with Him.”

But when they saw Our punishment, they said, "We believe in Allah alone and we deny what we used to associate with Him

So when they saw Our punishment, they said: "We believe in Allah Alone and reject (all) that we used to associate with Him as (His) partners.

Then when their messengers came to them with clear arguments, they exulted in what they had with them of knowledge and that at which they used to mock befell them.

But when they saw Our punishment, they said: We believe in Allah alone and we deny what we used to associate with Him.

Then, when they saw Our doom, they said: We believe in Allah only and reject (all) that we used to associate (with Him).

They said, "We believe in One God and disbelieve in whatever we had considered equal to Him," when they experienced Our wrath.

And when they saw Our Might, they said: 'We believe in Allah alone, and we disbelieve in that we used to associate with Him'

So when they saw Our punishment, they said: "We believe in Allah Alone and reject (all) that we used to associate with Him as (His) partners."

but when they saw Our punishment, they said, "We believe in God, the One God, and we reject the partners we used to associate with Him,"

Then, when they witnessed Our might, they said, “We believe in God alone, and we reject what we used to associate with Him.”

Then, when they saw Our doom, that is, the severity of Our chastisement, they said, `We believe in God alone, and we disavow what we used to associate with Him'.

قَالُوا امَنَّا بِاللَّهِ وَحْدَهُ وَكَفَرْنَا بِمَا كُنَّا بِهِ مُشْرِكِينَ



We believe in Allah Alone and reject (all) that we used to associate with Him as (His) partners.

means, they affirmed that Allah is One and denied the false gods, but this was at the time when excuses were to no avail.

This is like what Fir`awn said as he was drowning;

ءَامَنتُ أَنَّهُ لا إِلِـهَ إِلاَّ الَّذِى ءَامَنَتْ بِهِ بَنواْ إِسْرَءِيلَ وَأَنَاْ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ

I believe that none has the right to be worshipped but He in Whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am one of the Muslims. (10;90)

But Allah said;

ءَالَنَ وَقَدْ عَصَيْتَ قَبْلُ وَكُنتَ مِنَ الْمُفْسِدِينَ

Now (you believe) while you refused to believe before and you were one of the the corrupters. (10;91)

meaning, Allah did not accept this from him, because He had answered the prayer of His Prophet Musa, when he said,

وَاشْدُدْ عَلَى قُلُوبِهِمْ فَلَ يُوْمِنُواْ حَتَّى يَرَوُاْ الْعَذَابَ الاٌّلِيمَ

And harden their hearts, so that they will not believe until they see the painful torment. (10;88)

Allah says here

And when they encountered and experienced Our severe punishment, it was only then that they declared: "We believe in Allah alone, and we deny all the deities which we incorporated with Him
