وَاِذَآ اَنْعَمْنَا عَلَى الْاِنْسَانِ اَعْرَضَ وَنَاٰ بِجَانِبِهٖۚ وَاِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ فَذُوْ دُعَاۤءٍ عَرِيْضٍ   ( فصلت: ٥١ )

wa-idhā
وَإِذَآ
And when
anʿamnā
أَنْعَمْنَا
We bestow favor
ʿalā
عَلَى
upon
l-insāni
ٱلْإِنسَٰنِ
man
aʿraḍa
أَعْرَضَ
he turns away
wanaā
وَنَـَٔا
and distances himself
bijānibihi
بِجَانِبِهِۦ
and distances himself
wa-idhā
وَإِذَا
but when
massahu
مَسَّهُ
touches him
l-sharu
ٱلشَّرُّ
the evil
fadhū
فَذُو
then (he is) full
duʿāin
دُعَآءٍ
(of) supplication
ʿarīḍin
عَرِيضٍ
lengthy

Wa izaaa an'amnaa 'alal insaani a'rada wa na-aa bijaani bihee wa izaa massahush sharru fazoo du'aaa'in 'areed (Fuṣṣilat 41:51)

Sahih International:

And when We bestow favor upon man, he turns away and distances himself; but when evil touches him, then he is full of extensive supplication. (Fussilat [41] : 51)

1 Mufti Taqi Usmani

When We bestow Our favor upon man, he avoids (to appreciate it) and keeps himself far aside (from obedience), and when some evil touches him, he is full of lengthy prayers.
