وَلَوْ عَلِمَ اللّٰهُ فِيْهِمْ خَيْرًا لَّاَسْمَعَهُمْۗ وَلَوْ اَسْمَعَهُمْ لَتَوَلَّوْا وَّهُمْ مُّعْرِضُوْنَ  ( الأنفال: ٢٣ )

وَلَوْ
And if
ʿalima
عَلِمَ
(had) known
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah
fīhim
فِيهِمْ
in them
khayran
خَيْرًا
any good
la-asmaʿahum
لَّأَسْمَعَهُمْۖ
surely, He (would) have made them hear
walaw
وَلَوْ
And if
asmaʿahum
أَسْمَعَهُمْ
He had made them hear
latawallaw
لَتَوَلَّوا۟
surely they would have turned away
wahum
وَّهُم
while they
muʿ'riḍūna
مُّعْرِضُونَ
(were) averse

Wa law 'alimal laahu feehim khairal la asma'ahum; wa law asma'ahum latawallaw wa hum mu'ridoon (al-ʾAnfāl 8:23)

Sahih International:

Had Allah known any good in them, He would have made them hear. And if He had made them hear, they would [still] have turned away, while they were refusing. (Al-Anfal [8] : 23)

1 Mufti Taqi Usmani

Had Allah seen in them some good, He would have made them listen (as due). But if He makes them listen (now), they will turn away paying no heed.
