وَقَالُوْا لَوْلَا نُزِّلَ هٰذَا الْقُرْاٰنُ عَلٰى رَجُلٍ مِّنَ الْقَرْيَتَيْنِ عَظِيْمٍ ( الزخرف: ٣١ )
waqālū
وَقَالُوا۟
And they say
Et ils ont dit :
lawlā
لَوْلَا
"Why not
« Pourquoi n’
nuzzila
نُزِّلَ
was sent down
a (pas) été descendu [en étapes]
hādhā
هَٰذَا
this
Ce
l-qur'ānu
ٱلْقُرْءَانُ
the Quran
[Le] Coran
ʿalā
عَلَىٰ
to
à
rajulin
رَجُلٍ
a man
un homme
mina
مِّنَ
from
des
l-qaryatayni
ٱلْقَرْيَتَيْنِ
the two towns
[les] deux villages
ʿaẓīmin
عَظِيمٍ
great?"
immense (en position) ? »
Wa qaaloo law laa nuzzila haazal Quraanu 'alaa rajulim minal qaryataini 'azeem (az-Zukhruf 43:31)
English Sahih:
And they said, "Why was this Quran not sent down upon a great man from [one of] the two cities?" (Az-Zukhruf [43] : 31)

Et ils dirent: «Pourquoi n'a-t-on pas fait descendre ce Coran sur un haut personnage de l'une des deux cités?» (la Mecque et Tâ'îf). (Az-Zuhruf [43] : 31)

Les polythéistes dénégateurs dirent: Pourquoi Allah n’a-t-il pas révélé ce Coran aux deux hommes les plus influents de la Mecque et d’Aṭ-Ṭâ`if, Al-Walîd ibn ‘Uqbah et ‘Urwah ibn Mas’ûd Ath-Thaqafî, au lieu de le révéler à ce pauvre et orphelin Muħammad?
