بَلۡ قَالُـوۡۤا اِنَّا وَجَدۡنَاۤ اٰبَآءَنَا عَلٰٓى اُمَّةٍ وَّاِنَّا عَلٰٓى اٰثٰرِهِمۡ مُّهۡتَدُوۡنَ(الزخرف :22)
Bal qaloo inna wajadna abaana 'ala ommatin wainna 'ala atharihim muhtadoona
Sahih International:
Rather, they say, "Indeed, we found our fathers upon a religion, and we are in their footsteps [rightly] guided."
وَكَذٰلِكَ مَاۤ اَرۡسَلۡنَا مِنۡ قَبۡلِكَ فِىۡ قَرۡيَةٍ مِّنۡ نَّذِيۡرٍ اِلَّا قَالَ مُتۡرَفُوۡهَاۤ اِنَّا وَجَدۡنَاۤ اٰبَآءَنَا عَلٰٓى اُمَّةٍ وَّاِنَّا عَلٰٓى اٰثٰرِهِمۡ مُّقۡتَدُوۡنَ(الزخرف :23)
Wakathalika ma arsalna min qablika fee qaryatin min natheerin illa qala mutrafooha inna wajadna abaana 'ala ommatin wainna 'ala atharihim muqtadoona
Sahih International:
And similarly, We did not send before you any warner into a city except that its affluent said, "Indeed, we found our fathers upon a religion, and we are, in their footsteps, following."
قٰلَ اَوَلَوۡ جِئۡتُكُمۡ بِاَهۡدٰى مِمَّا وَجَدْتُّمۡ عَلَيۡهِ اٰبَآءَكُمۡ ؕ قَالُوۡۤا اِنَّا بِمَاۤ اُرۡسِلۡـتُمۡ بِهٖ كٰفِرُوۡنَ(الزخرف :24)
Qala awalaw jitukum biahda mimma wajadtum 'alayhi abaakum qaloo inna bima orsiltum bihi kafiroona
Sahih International:
[Each warner] said, "Even if I brought you better guidance than that [religion] upon which you found your fathers?" They said, "Indeed we, in that with which you were sent, are disbelievers."
