وَلَتَجِدَنَّهُمْ اَحْرَصَ النَّاسِ عَلٰى حَيٰوةٍ ۛوَمِنَ الَّذِيْنَ اَشْرَكُوْا ۛيَوَدُّ اَحَدُهُمْ لَوْ يُعَمَّرُ اَلْفَ سَنَةٍۚ وَمَا هُوَ بِمُزَحْزِحِهٖ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ اَنْ يُّعَمَّرَۗ وَاللّٰهُ بَصِيْرٌۢ بِمَا يَعْمَلُوْنَ ࣖ ( البقرة: ٩٦ )
Wa latajidannahum ahrasannaasi 'alaa hayaatinw wa minal lazeena ashrakoo; yawaddu ahaduhum law yu'ammaru alfa sanatinw wa maa huwa bi muzahzihihee minal 'azaabi ai yu'ammar; wallaahu baseerum bimaa ya'maloon (al-Baq̈arah 2:96)
English Sahih:
And you will surely find them the most greedy of people for life – [even] more than those who associate others with Allah. One of them wishes that he could be granted life a thousand years, but it would not remove him in the least from the [coming] punishment that he should be granted life. And Allah is Seeing of what they do. (Al-Baqarah [2] : 96)
Karakunnu/Elayavoor (കാരകുന്ന് & എളയാവൂര്):
ജീവിതത്തോട് മറ്റാരെക്കാളും കൊതിയുള്ളവരായി നിനക്കവരെ കാണാം; ബഹുദൈവ വിശ്വാസികളെക്കാളും അത്യാഗ്രഹികളായി. ആയിരം കൊല്ലം ആയുസ്സുണ്ടായെങ്കില് എന്ന് അവര് ഓരോരുത്തരും ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നു. എന്നാല് ആയുര്ദൈര്ഘ്യം ഒരാളെയും ശിക്ഷയില് നിന്ന് അകറ്റി മാറ്റുകയില്ല. അവര് ചെയ്യുന്നതൊക്കെയും സൂക്ഷ്മമായി കാണുന്നവനാണ് അല്ലാഹു. (അല്ബഖറ [2] : 96)

തീര്ച്ചയായും ജനങ്ങളില് വെച്ച് ജീവിതത്തോട് ഏറ്റവും ആര്ത്തിയുള്ളവരായി അവരെ (യഹൂദരെ) നിനക്ക് കാണാം; ബഹുദൈവവിശ്വാസികളെക്കാള് പോലും. അവരില് ഓരോരുത്തരും കൊതിക്കുന്നത് തനിക്ക് ഒരായിരം കൊല്ലത്തെ ആയുസ്സ് കിട്ടിയിരുന്നെങ്കില് എന്നാണ്. ഒരാള്ക്ക് ദീര്ഘായുസ്സ് ലഭിക്കുക എന്നത് അയാളെ (അല്ലാഹുവിൻ്റെ) ശിക്ഷയില് നിന്ന് അകറ്റിക്കളയുന്ന കാര്യമല്ല. അവര് പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കുന്നതെല്ലാം സൂക്ഷ്മമായി അറിയുന്നവനാകുന്നു അല്ലാഹു.
