وَلَتَجِدَنَّهُمْ اَحْرَصَ النَّاسِ عَلٰى حَيٰوةٍ ۛوَمِنَ الَّذِيْنَ اَشْرَكُوْا ۛيَوَدُّ اَحَدُهُمْ لَوْ يُعَمَّرُ اَلْفَ سَنَةٍۚ وَمَا هُوَ بِمُزَحْزِحِهٖ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ اَنْ يُّعَمَّرَۗ وَاللّٰهُ بَصِيْرٌۢ بِمَا يَعْمَلُوْنَ ࣖ ( البقرة: ٩٦ )
Walatajidannahum ahrasa alnnasi 'ala hayatin wamina allatheena ashrakoo yawaddu ahaduhum law yu'ammaru alfa sanatin wama huwa bimuzahzihihi mina al'athabi an yu'ammara waAllahu baseerun bima ya'maloona (al-Baq̈arah 2:96)

तुम उन्हें सब लोगों से बढ़कर जीवन का लोभी पाओगे, यहाँ तक कि वे इस सम्बन्ध में शिर्क करनेवालो से भी बढ़े हुए है। उनका तो प्रत्येक व्यक्ति यह इच्छा रखता है कि क्या ही अच्छा होता कि उस हज़ार वर्ष की आयु मिले, जबकि यदि उसे यह आयु प्राप्त भी जाए, तो भी वह अपने आपको यातना से नहीं बचा सकता। अल्लाह देख रहा है, जो कुछ वे कर रहे है
English Sahih:
And you will surely find them the most greedy of people for life – [even] more than those who associate others with Allah. One of them wishes that he could be granted life a thousand years, but it would not remove him in the least from the [coming] punishment that he should be granted life. And Allah is Seeing of what they do. ([2] Al-Baqarah : 96)

और (ऐ रसूल) तुम उन ही को ज़िन्दगी का सबसे ज्यादा हरीस पाओगे और मुशरिक़ों में से हर एक शख्स चाहता है कि काश उसको हज़ार बरस की उम्र दी जाती हालाँकि अगर इतनी तूलानी उम्र भी दी जाए तो वह ख़ुदा के अज़ाब से छुटकारा देने वाली नहीं, और जो कुछ वह लोग करते हैं खुदा उसे देख रहा है
