وَاضْرِبْ لَهُمْ مَّثَلَ الْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَا كَمَاۤءٍ اَنْزَلْنٰهُ مِنَ السَّمَاۤءِ فَاخْتَلَطَ بِهٖ نَبَاتُ الْاَرْضِ فَاَصْبَحَ هَشِيْمًا تَذْرُوْهُ الرِّيٰحُ ۗوَكَانَ اللّٰهُ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مُّقْتَدِرًا  ( الكهف: ٤٥ )

wa-iḍ'rib
وَٱضْرِبْ
And present
lahum
لَهُم
to them
mathala
مَّثَلَ
the example
l-ḥayati
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
(of) the life
l-dun'yā
ٱلدُّنْيَا
(of) the world
kamāin
كَمَآءٍ
like water
anzalnāhu
أَنزَلْنَٰهُ
which We send down
mina
مِنَ
from
l-samāi
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
the sky
fa-ikh'talaṭa
فَٱخْتَلَطَ
then mingles
bihi
بِهِۦ
with it
nabātu
نَبَاتُ
(the) vegetation
l-arḍi
ٱلْأَرْضِ
(of) the earth
fa-aṣbaḥa
فَأَصْبَحَ
then becomes
hashīman
هَشِيمًا
dry stalks
tadhrūhu
تَذْرُوهُ
it (is) scattered
l-riyāḥu
ٱلرِّيَٰحُۗ
(by) the winds
wakāna
وَكَانَ
And Allah
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
And Allah
ʿalā
عَلَىٰ
over
kulli
كُلِّ
every
shayin
شَىْءٍ
thing
muq'tadiran
مُّقْتَدِرًا
(is) All Able

Wadrib lahum masalal hayaatid dunyaa kamaaa'in anzalnaahu minas samaaa'i fakhtalata bihee nabaatul ardi fa asbaha hasheeman tazroo hur riyaah; wa kaanal laahu 'alaa kulli shai'im muqtadiraa (al-Kahf 18:45)

Sahih International:

And present to them the example of the life of this world, [its being] like rain which We send down from the sky, and the vegetation of the earth mingles with it and [then] it becomes dry remnants, scattered by the winds. And Allah is ever, over all things, Perfect in Ability. (Al-Kahf [18] : 45)

1 Mufti Taqi Usmani

Give them the example of the worldly life; it is like water We sent down from the sky, then the vegetation of the earth was mingled with it, and then it turned into chaff that is blown by the winds, and Allah is powerful over everything.
