Al-Baqarah Verse 8

And there are some who say, “We believe in Allah and the Last Day,” yet they are not ˹true˺ believers.

There are some among people who say, “We believe in Allah and the Last Day,” whereas they are not believers.

And some men there are who say, 'We believe in God and the Last Day'; but they are not believers.

Some people say, ‘We believe in God and the Last Day,’ when really they do not believe.

And of mankind are some who say: we believe in Allah and in the Last Day: whereas they are not believers.

Of the people there are some who say; "We believe in Allah and the Last Day;" but they do not (really) believe.

Then there are some who say, "We believe in Allah and the Last Day", whereas they do not believe at all.

And there are some who, though they say: "We believe in God and the Last Day," (in reality) do not believe.

And among the people are some* that say, “We believe in Allah and the Last Day**” whereas they are not believers! (* The hypocrites ** the Day of Resurrection)

Among the people are those who say, ‘We have faith in Allah and the Last Day,’ but they have no faith.

Among people are some who say, "We believe in God and in the Last Day", although they are not believers.

THERE are some people who say, `We believe in Allâh and the Last Day,´ while they are no believers at all.

And from the people who say: "We believed by God and with the Day the Last/ Resurrection Day." And they are not with believing.

And among the people are some * that say, "We believe in Allah and the Last Day **" whereas they are not believers! (* The hypocrites ** the Day of Resurrection)

And there are those among men who say, "We believe in Allah and in the last day;" but they do not believe.

And of mankind, there are some (hypocrites) who say: "We believe in Allah and the Last Day" while in fact they believe not.

And there are some people who say: We believe in Allah and the Last Day; and they are not believers.

And there are some people who say: We believe in Allah and the last day; and they are not at all believers.

And of mankind are some who say: We believe in Allah and the Last Day, when they believe not.

Some people say, "We believe in God and the Day of Judgment," but they are not true believers.

There are some people who say: 'We believe in Allah and the Last Day,'yet they are not believers.

And of mankind, there are some who say: "We believe in Allah and the Last Day" while in fact they do not believe.

There are some who say, "We believe in God and the Last Day," yet they are not believers.

Among the people are those who say, “We believe in God and in the Last Day,” but they are not believers.

The following was revealed concerning the hypocrites; and some people there are who say, `We believe in God and the Last Day', that is, in the Day of Resurrection because it is the very last day; but they are not believers (the [plural] import of man [in man yaql, `who says'] is taken into account here, as expressed by a pronoun [hum] that expresses this [plural] meaning).

The Hypocrites

We mentioned that four Ayat in the beginning of Surah Al-Baqarah described the believers. The two last Ayat (2;6-7) describe the disbelievers.

Afterwards, Allah begins to describe the hypocrites who show belief and hide disbelief. Since the matter of the hypocrites is vague and many people do not realize their true reality, Allah mentioned their description in detail. Each of the characteristics that Allah used to described them with is a type of hypocrisy itself. Allah revealed Surah Bara'h and Surah Al-Munafiqun about the hypocrites. He also mentioned the hypocrites in Surah An-Nur and other Surahs, so that their description would be known and their ways and errors could be avoided.

Allah said,

وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَن يَقُولُ امَنَّا بِاللّهِ وَبِالْيَوْمِ الاخِرِ وَمَا هُم بِمُوْمِنِينَ



يُخَادِعُونَ اللّهَ وَالَّذِينَ امَنُوا وَمَا يَخْدَعُونَ إِلاَّ أَنفُسَهُم وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ
