Taha Verse 116

And ˹remember˺ when We said to the angels, “Prostrate before Adam,” so they all did—but not Iblîs,[[ See footnote for {2:34}.]] who refused ˹arrogantly˺.

When We said to the angels, “Prostrate before Adam,” so they all prostrated, except Iblīs, who refused.

And when We said to the angels, 'Bow yourselves to Adam'; so they bowed themselves, save Iblis; he refused.

When We said to the angels, ‘Bow down before Adam,’ they did. But Iblis refused,

And recall what time We said to the angels: prostrate yourselves before Adam. They fell prostrate, but Iblis did not; he refused.

When We said to the angels, "Prostrate yourselves to Adam", they prostrated themselves, but not Iblis; he refused.

Recall when We said to the angels: "Prostrate yourselves before Adam"; all prostrated themselves save Iblis. He refused.

When We said to the angels: ''Bow before Adam,'' they all bowed but Iblis, who refused.

And when We commanded the angels, “Prostrate before Adam” – so they all prostrated, except Iblis; he refused.

When We said to the angels, ‘Prostrate before Adam,’ they prostrated, but not Iblis: he refused.

And when We said to the angels, "Prostrate yourselves before Adam," they all prostrated themselves. But Iblis did not; he refused.

And (recall the time) when We said to the angels, `Make obeisance to Adam (and his sons).´ They (all) made obeisance, but Iblîs (did not), he refused (to submit).

And when We said to the angels: "Prostrate to Adam." So they prostrated except Satan/Iblis refused/hated.

And when We commanded the angels, "Prostrate before Adam" - so they all prostrated, except Iblis; he refused.

We did make a covenant with Adam of yore, but he forgot it, and We found no firm purpose in him.

And (remember) when We said to the angels: "Prostrate yourselves to Adam." They prostrated (all) except Iblis (Satan), who refused.

And certainly We gave a commandment to Adam before, but he forgot; and We found in him no resolve (to disobey).

And when We said to the angels: Make obeisance to Adam, they made obeisance, but Iblis (did it not); he refused.

And when We said unto the angels: Fall prostrate before Adam, they fell prostrate (all) save Iblis; he refused.

When We told the angels to prostrate before Adam they all obeyed except Iblis (satan) who refused.

And when We said to the angels: 'Prostrate yourselves before Adam' they all prostrated themselves except iblis, who refused.

And (remember) when We said to the angels: "Prostrate yourselves to Adam." They prostrated themselves (all) except Iblis; he refused.

When We said to the angels, "Prostrate yourselves before Adam," they all prostrated themselves, except for Satan, who refused,

And when We said to the angels, “Bow down to Adam.” They bowed down, except for Satan; he refused.

And, mention, when We said to the angels, `Prostrate before Adam'; so they prostrated, except Ibls, who was the father of the jinn -- he used to keep company with the angels and worship God alongside them; he refused, to prostrate before Adam, he said; `I am better than him' [Q. 7;12].

وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَإيِكَةِ اسْجُدُوا لاِإدَمَ

And when We said to the angels;"Prostrate yourselves to Adam."

He, Allah mentions how Adam was honored and what respect was given to him. He mentions how He favored him over many of those whom He created.

A discussion of this story has already preceded in Surah Al-Baqarah, Surah Al-A`raf, Surah Al-Hijr and Surah Al-Kahf. It will also be mentioned again at the end of Surah Sad.

In this story, Allah mentions the creation of Adam and that He commanded the angels to prostrate to Adam as a sign of honor and respect. He also explains the enmity of Iblis for the Children of Adam and for their father, Adam, before them.

Due to this Allah says,

فَسَجَدُوا إِلاَّ إِبْلِيسَ أَبَى



They prostrated themselves (all) except Iblis; he refused.

This means that he refrained from prostrating and became arrogant
