8 Ali Quli Qarai

Or, ‘[Why is not] a treasure thrown to him, or [why does] he [not] have a garden from which he may eat?’ And the wrongdoers say, ‘You are just following a bewitched man.’

9 Ali Ünal

Or: "Why is a treasure not cast down upon him from the heaven (so that he should no longer need to go about in market-places to earn a living)?" Or: "Why does he not have a garden (granted to him miraculously) to obtain his food from?" And so these wrongdoers say (to the believers): "You are following only a man bewitched!"

10 Amatul Rahman Omar

`Or a treasure should have been sent to him or there should have been a garden from which he might eat.´ Not only that, these unjust people say, `You follow none but a (mere) man who is given food.´

11 English Literal

Or a treasure be thrown to him, or a treed garden/paradise be for him, he eats from it. And the unjust/oppressive said: "That you follow except a bewitched/enchanted man."

12 Faridul Haque

“Or that he should have obtained a hidden treasure, or should have had a garden from which to eat”; and the unjust said, “You do not follow but a man under a magic spell.”

17 Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Or (why is not) treasure thrown down unto him, or why hath he not a paradise from whence to eat? And the evil-doers say: Ye are but following a man bewitched.

23 Tafsir jalalayn

Or a treasure thrown down to him, from the heaven, for him to spend from so as not to be in need of walking through the marketplaces in order to earn his livelihood. Or he has a garden, an orchard, for him to eat from?', that is, [to eat] from its fruits and satisfy himself therewith (a variant reading [for ya'kulu, `for him to eat'] has na'kulu, `for us to eat') and thus possess because of that [garden] an advantage over us. The wrongdoers, namely, the disbelievers, say, to the believers; `You are just following a man bewitched!', one duped, his mind overcome. God, exalted be He, says;

24 Tafseer Ibn Kathir

أَوْ يُلْقَى إِلَيْهِ كَنزٌ

Or (why) has not a treasure been granted to him,

meaning, treasure that he could spend on his needs and wants.

أَوْ تَكُونُ لَهُ جَنَّةٌ يَأْكُلُ مِنْهَا

or why has he not a garden whereof he may eat,

meaning, a garden that would go with him wherever he went.

All of this is easy for Allah, but He had a reason for not doing any of these things, and with Him is the perfect proof and argument.

وَقَالَ الظَّالِمُونَ إِن تَتَّبِعُونَ إِلاَّ رَجُلً مَّسْحُورًا

And the wrongdoers say;"You follow none but a man bewitched."
