Ash-Shu'ara Verse 130

and act so viciously when you attack ˹others˺?

And when you attack [others], do you attack ruthlessly?

When you assault, you assault like tyrants!

Why do you act like tyrants whenever you attack someone?

And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants.

"And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power?

and when you strike you strike like tyrants?

And whenever you apply force become tyrannical.

“And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?”

and when you seize [someone for punishment], you seize [him] like tyrants.

"And when you strike and seize (others and their goods), strike and seize in the style of tyrants?

`And when you lay hold (on anyone), you do it like tyrants.

And if you destroyed/attacked violently, you destroyed/attacked violently (as) tyrants/rebels ?

“And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?”

"And build you fine strong buildings that per chance (or possibly) you may be immortal?

"And when you seize, seize you as tyrants?

Do you build on every height a monument? You (only) sport.

And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants;

And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants?

When you attack, you attack as tyrants do.

When you assault, you assault like tyrants.

"And when you seize (somebody), seize you (him) as tyrants"

When you lay hands upon anyone, you do so as tyrants.

And when you strike, you strike mercilessly?

And when you assault, to smite or slay, you assault like tyrants, mercilessly!

And do you get for yourselves Masani` as if you will live therein forever!

Mujahid said,

"This means fortresses built up strong and high and structures that are built to last."

لَعَلَّكُمْ تَخْلُدُونَ


as if you will live therein forever,

means, `so that you may stay there forever, but that is not going to happen, because they will eventually cease to be, just as happened in the case of those who came before you.'

وَإِذَا بَطَشْتُم بَطَشْتُمْ جَبَّارِينَ
