An-Naml Verse 72

Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Perhaps some of what you seek to hasten is close at hand.”

Say, “Perhaps some of what you seek to hasten is quite near to you.”

Say: 'It may be that riding behind you already is some part of that you seek to hasten on.

Say, ‘Maybe some of what you seek to hasten is near at hand.’

Say thou: belike close behind you may be some of that which ye would hasten on.

Say; "It may be that some of the events which ye wish to hasten on may be (close) in your pursuit!"

Say: "The chastisement whose hastening you have been asking for, maybe a part of it has drawn quite near to you."

Say: "Perhaps some of what you wish to hasten is right behind you."

Say, “It could be that a part of what you are impatient for is (already) after you.”

Say, ‘Perhaps there is right behind you some of what you seek to hasten.’

Say: "It may well be that something of that which you ask to be hastened has already drawn quite near behind you."

Say, `It is possible that a part of that (victory) which you are keen to precipitate may be close on your heels.´

Say: "Maybe/perhaps that some (of) what you hurry/hasten be followed closely behind , for you."

Say, “It could be that a part of what you are impatient for, is (already) after you.”

They say, "When shall this promise be if you do tell the truth?"

Say: "Perhaps that which you wish to hasten on, may be close behind you.

And grieve not for them, nor be distressed because of what they plan.

Say: Maybe there may have drawn near to you somewhat of that which you seek to hasten on.

Say: It may be that a part of that which ye would hasten on is close behind you.

Say, "Perhaps some of the things which you wish to experience immediately are very close to you."

Say: 'It may be that part of what you seek to hasten on is already riding behind you'

Say: "Perhaps that which you wish to hasten on, may be close behind you."

Say, "It may be that a part of what you would hasten on is close behind you."

Say, “Perhaps some of what you are impatient for has drawn near.”

Say; `It may be that part of what you seek to hasten on is close behind you' -- so they were slain at Badr and the remaining chastisement will come to them after death.

قُلْ

Say, (`O Muhammad,')

عَسَى أَن يَكُونَ رَدِفَ لَكُم بَعْضُ الَّذِي تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ



Perhaps that which you wish to hasten on, may be close behind you.

Ibn Abbas said,

"That which you wish to hasten on has come close to you, or some of it has come close."

This was also the view of Mujahid, Ad-Dahhak, Ata Al-Khurasani, Qatadah and As-Suddi.

This is also what is meant in the Ayat;

وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَى هُوَ قُلْ عَسَى أَن يَكُونَ قَرِيبًا

And they say;"When will that be!" Say;"Perhaps it is near!" (17;51)

يَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ بِالْعَذَابِ وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمُحِيطَةٌ بِالْكَـفِرِينَ

They ask you to hasten on the torment. And verily, Hell, of a surety, will encompass the disbelievers. (29;54)

عَسَى أَن يَكُونَ رَدِفَ لَكُم

may be close behind you.

means, it is being hastened for you.

This was reported from Mujahid.

Then Allah says
