وَمَا يَسْتَوِى الْاَحْيَاۤءُ وَلَا الْاَمْوَاتُۗ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ يُسْمِعُ مَنْ يَّشَاۤءُ ۚوَمَآ اَنْتَ بِمُسْمِعٍ مَّنْ فِى الْقُبُوْرِ   ( فاطر: ٢٢ )

wamā
وَمَا
And not
yastawī
يَسْتَوِى
equal
l-aḥyāu
ٱلْأَحْيَآءُ
(are) the living
walā
وَلَا
and not
l-amwātu
ٱلْأَمْوَٰتُۚ
the dead
inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
yus'miʿu
يُسْمِعُ
causes to hear
man
مَن
whom
yashāu
يَشَآءُۖ
He wills
wamā
وَمَآ
and not
anta
أَنتَ
you
bimus'miʿin
بِمُسْمِعٍ
can make hear
man
مَّن
(those) who
فِى
(are) in
l-qubūri
ٱلْقُبُورِ
the graves

Wa maa yastawil ahyaaa'u wa lal amwaat; innal laaha yusmi'u mai yashaaa'u wa maaa anta bimusi'im man fil quboor (Fāṭir 35:22)

Sahih International:

And not equal are the living and the dead. Indeed, Allah causes to hear whom He wills, but you cannot make hear those in the graves. (Fatir [35] : 22)

1 Mufti Taqi Usmani

And the living and the dead are not alike. Allah makes to hear whomsoever He wills. And you cannot make to hear those who are in the graves.
