At-Tur Verse 32

Or do their ˹intelligent˺ minds prompt them to this ˹paradox˺?[[ The pagan leaders claimed to be Mecca’s most intelligent minds. So this verse questions their intelligence, arguing that the Prophet (ﷺ) cannot be a madman and a poet at the same time. ]] Or are they ˹just˺ a transgressing people?

Do their minds prompt them to say such things, or are they a transgressing people?

Or do their intellects bid them do this? Or are they an insolent people?

does their reason really tell them to do this, or are they simply insolent people?

Enjoin them their understandings to this? or are they a people conumacious?

Is it that their faculties of understanding urge them to this, or are they but a people transgressing beyond bounds?

Do their minds prompt them to say such things, or are they a people immersed in transgression?”

Does their reasoning prompt them to this, or they are a people rebellious?

Is this what their senses tell them, or are they a rebellious people?

Is it their intellect which prompts them to [say] this, or are they a rebellious lot?

Do their minds urge them to such (absurd falsehoods), or are they a people (in the habit of being) rebellious and outrageous?

As a matter of fact their reason prompts them to (think of the Prophet in) these (terms). They are, rather, a people transgressing limits.

Or their minds/dreams order/command them with that, or they are a tyrannizing/arrogant nation?

Is this what their senses tell them, or are they a rebellious people?

Nay! Do their understandings bid them this? Or are they a people transgressing beyond bounds?

Do their minds command them this [i.e. to tell a lie against you (Muhammad SAW)] or are they people exceeding the bounds (i.e. from Belief in Allah to disbelief).

Say: Wait, I too wait along with you.

Nay! do their understandings bid them this? Or are they an inordinate people?

Do their minds command them to do this, or are they an outrageous folk?

Does their reason tell them to say this or is it because they are a rebellious people?

Or, do their intellects order them to do this? Or, are they an insolent people?

Or do their minds command them this or are they people transgressing all bounds

is it their minds that prompt them [to say] this, or are they merely insolent people?

Or is it that their dreams compel them to this? Or are they aggressive people?

Or do their faculties of understanding prompt them to [say] this?, their saying to him; [you are either] a sorcerer, a poet, a soothsayer or a madman, in other words, they do not [in reality] prompt them to [say] this. Or (am, [in effect] means bal, `rather') are they a rebellious lot?, because of their obstinacy.

أَمْ تَأْمُرُهُمْ أَحْلَمُهُم بِهَذَا

Or do their minds command them this,

`do their minds command them to tell these lies against you (O Muhammad), even though they know in their hearts that they are untrue and false,'

أَمْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ طَاغُونَ



or are they people transgressing all bounds?

`surely, they are misguided, stubborn and unjust people, and this is why they say what they say about you (O Muhammad). '
