Al-Mulk Verse 30

Say, “Consider this: if your water were to sink ˹into the earth˺, then who ˹else˺ could bring you flowing water?”

Say, “What do you think, if your water were to sink deep into the earth, who can bring you flowing water?”

Say: 'What think you? If in the morning your water should have vanished into the earth, then who would bring you running water?'

Say, ‘Just think: if all your water were to sink deep into the earth who could give you flowing water in its place?’

Say thou: bethink ye, were your water to be sunk away, who then could bring you water welling-up?

Say; "See ye?- If your stream be some morning lost (in the underground earth), who then can supply you with clear-flowing water?"

Say to them: “Did you even consider: if all the water that you have (in the wells) were to sink down into the depths of the earth, who will produce for you clear, flowing water?”

Say: "Just think: If your water were to dry up in the morning who will bring you water from a fresh, flowing stream?"

Say, “What is your opinion – if in the morning all your water were to sink into the earth, then who is such who can bring you water flowing before you?”

Say, ‘Tell me, should your water sink down [into the ground], who will bring you running water?’

Say: "Have you ever considered (this): If your water should vanish underground (leaving you with no source of water), who is there that can bring to you (a source to replace it of) gushing water?"

Say, `Have you considered if (all) your water were to disappear (in the depths of the earth) who, then, will bring you pure flowing water?´

Say: "Did you see/understand if your water became/became in the morning deeply sunk/bottomed ? So who comes/brings to you with water flowing easily and plentifully?"429

Say, “What is your opinion - if in the morning all your water were to sink into the earth, then who is such who can bring you water flowing before you?”

Say, "Have you considered if all your water should some morning be lost down into the earth, who is it then that will supply you clear flowing water?"

Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Tell me! If (all) your water were to be sunk away, who then can supply you with flowing (spring) water?"

By the grace of thy Lord thou art not mad.

Say: Have you considered if your water should go down, who is it then that will bring you flowing water?

Say: Have ye thought: If (all) your water were to disappear into the earth, who then could bring you gushing water?

Say, "Have you not thought that if your water was to dry up, who would bring you water from the spring?"

Say: 'What do you think. If your water should sink into the earth in the morning, who then would bring you running water'

Say: "Tell me! If (all) your water were to sink away, who then can supply you with flowing water"

Say, "Have you considered if your water were to sink into the ground, who could then bring you flowing water?"

Say, “Have you considered? If your water drains away, who will bring you pure running water?”

Say; `Have you considered; If your water were to sink deep into the earth, who then will bring you running water?', which hands and buckets would be able to reach, like [they do] your water; in other words, none but God, exalted be He, would be able to bring it, so how can you reject that He will resurrect you? It is commendable for one to say Allhu rabbu'l-`lamna, `God, Lord of the Worlds!', after ma`n, `running water', as is stated in a hadth. This verse was recited before a certain tyrant who then replied, `Hatchets and pickaxes will bring it!', whereupon the water of his eyes dried up and he became blind. We seek refuge with God against that we should be insolent towards Him or His verses. Meccan, consisting of 52 verses.

قُلْ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَصْبَحَ مَاوُكُمْ غَوْرًا

Say;

"Tell me! If your water were to sink away..."

meaning, if it were to go away, disappearing into the lowest depths of the earth, then it would not be reachable with iron axes nor strong arms.

غَوْرًا
Gha'ir' (sinking) as used here in the Ayah, is the opposite of springing forth. This is why Allah says,

فَمَن يَأْتِيكُم بِمَاء مَّعِينٍ



who then can supply you with flowing water?

meaning, springing forth, flowing, running upon the face of the earth.

This means that no one is able to do this except Allah. So, it is merely out of His favor and His grace that He causes water to spring forth for you, and He makes it run to the various regions of the earth in an amount that is suitable for the needs of servants, be it little or abundant. So Allah's is all the praise and thanks.
