وَلَوْ كَانُوْا يُؤْمِنُوْنَ بِاللّٰهِ وَالنَّبِيِّ وَمَآ اُنْزِلَ اِلَيْهِ مَا اتَّخَذُوْهُمْ اَوْلِيَاۤءَ وَلٰكِنَّ كَثِيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ فٰسِقُوْنَ ( المائدة: ٨١ )
Wa law kaanoo yu'minoona billaahi wan nabiyyi wa maaa unzila ilaihi attakhazoohum awliyaaa'a wa laakinna kaseeram minhum faasiqoon (al-Māʾidah 5:81)
English Sahih:
And if they had believed in Allah and the Prophet and in what was revealed to him, they would not have taken them as allies; but many of them are defiantly disobedient. (Al-Ma'idah [5] : 81)
Muhammad Hamidullah:
S'ils croyaient en Allah, au Prophète et à ce qui lui a été descendu, ils ne prendraient pas ces mécréants pour alliés. Mais beaucoup d'entre eux sont pervers. (Al-Ma'idah [5] : 81)

Si ces juifs croyaient véritablement en Allah et en Son Prophète, ils n’auraient pas pris pour alliés les polythéistes ; mais nombre d’entre eux se sont affranchis de l’obéissance à Allah, de Son alliance et de l’alliance due aux croyants.
