وَاِذَا تُتْلٰى عَلَيْهِمْ اٰيٰتُنَا قَالُوْا قَدْ سَمِعْنَا لَوْ نَشَاۤءُ لَقُلْنَا مِثْلَ هٰذَآ ۙاِنْ هٰذَآ اِلَّآ اَسَاطِيْرُ الْاَوَّلِيْنَ ( الأنفال: ٣١ )
And when
وَإِذَا
और जब
are recited
تُتْلَىٰ
पढ़ी जाती हैं
to them
عَلَيْهِمْ
उन पर
Our Verses
ءَايَٰتُنَا
आयात हमारी
they say
قَالُوا۟
वो कहते हैं
"Verily
قَدْ
तहक़ीक़
we have heard
سَمِعْنَا
सुन लिया हमने
if
لَوْ
अगर
we wish
نَشَآءُ
हम चाहें
surely, we could say
لَقُلْنَا
अलबत्ता कह लें हम
like
مِثْلَ
मानिन्द
this
هَٰذَآۙ
इसी के
Not
إِنْ
नहीं
is this
هَٰذَآ
ये
but
إِلَّآ
मगर
tales
أَسَٰطِيرُ
कहानियाँ
(of) the former (people)"
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
पहलों की
Waitha tutla 'alayhim ayatuna qaloo qad sami'na law nashao laqulna mithla hatha in hatha illa asateeru alawwaleena (al-ʾAnfāl 8:31)

जब उनके सामने हमारी आयतें पढ़ी जाती है, तो वे कहते है, 'हम सुन चुके। यदि हम चाहें तो ऐसी बातें हम भी बना लें; ये तो बस पहले के लोगों की कहानियाँ हैं।'
English Sahih:
And when Our verses are recited to them, they say, "We have heard. If we willed, we could say [something] like this. This is not but legends of the former peoples." ([8] Al-Anfal : 31)
